Fiona came back to us

We were moving to a new house and moving day was crazy. Our 2 cats (in door cats and declawed) were locked in the bathroom until we were ready to leave. Fiona, our lovable but very timid cat shot out of the bathroom door and down the stairs. When I reached the bottom of the stairs the front door was open from the moving crew and Fiona was gone. Our other cat ran into the basement and we captured him. We even searched the basement just in case Fiona went that way. We looked outside, behind neighbors houses and found nothing. We sent flyers around, the neighborhood was looking and calling if they saw a cat.
Our previous neighbor let us put a safe trap in their yard, we moved it around the neighborhood and nothing. Feeling hopeless, I remembered The Secret and became persistant. Checking the trap a.m. and p.m. rain or shine. Previous neighbors would call if the trap was set but sometimes the wind just set it off. After 6 weeks, raccoons started to eat from the trap and we took the trap away.
The next week I stopped thinking about how I was going to get Fiona, but what it felt like with her on my lap, her begging for a snack, waking me up for a rubbing. On the 6th week, 6th day, I received a phone call. It went like this…”hello, is this Sara?” ‘Yes’ “I’m sue, we bought your house. This is going to sound crazy but, we just found Fiona in our basement!” I couldnt get there fast enough. Sue told me that they never heard her or saw her but seemed to be going through a lot of dog food and she was blaming the small dog on accidents found in the basement. It wasn’t until that evening when her daughter went into the basement and Fiona flew infront of her and up into the beams and rafters above the furnace where she was hiding for 7 weeks.
Despite all the dod food that she ate, Fiona was very skinny and frail. We took her home and boy was she happy. Our family bought the new owners a bag of dog treats and a gift certificate in appreciation. As I type this now, Fiona is on my lap as I visualized purring away. Happy ending!
