Even 16yr old wannabe musos know the Secret
I was about sixteen years old when I so, so badly wanted to be in a band. Well as most success stories go, I came from a very poor family, my mom was both mom and dad to me, and my two sisters and she could not afford to buy me a set of drums, so I had to learn to play by banging on my knees, on the pots, the buckets, just about whatever made a decent enough sound.
To top it all, I had this ridiculous notion that I would start a band. This is when I first learned the Secret. I did not know anybody my age who even played a guitar. But I was going to start a band! I used to sit at the edge of my bed with my music playing on my headphones and practice every day without drums or even drumsticks, just visualizing myself on stage performing with the band.
Then out of the blue I started meeting some guys who could play a few tunes on the guitar, and I proposed to them that we get a band going. Well as I said this was a poor community, so I became the laughing stock of my newfound friends. So we got by with just singing on the street corners with an acoustic guitar, until one day one of the guys suggested we go see an old man who had a jazz band. Perhaps we could be the “B” team, my friend suggested. This old man almost fell off his chair when I approached him. He did not think there were still youngsters who were interested in playing real instruments in a band. To cut a long story short, that is how my band started.
Now every time I get into a situation that I believe is just so challenging that it’s no use carrying on, I think of that time twenty two years ago when nothing was impossible for me. When you have a desire that inflames and obsesses you, and you have complete faith that you must and will have it, then you will!
