I was married for 17 years to a man who turned out to be mentally ill and violent. We had 3 daughters together and I wanted to make things work in the beginning. He slowly became increasingly violent and he put cameras up in the house and monitored all my phone calls and would not allow me to work outside the home. Due to his illness, he was on social security, so he was able to be with me 24 hours a day. He said if I ever tried to leave he would kill me. My daughters would ask me every night when I tucked them in bed, “When are we going to leave daddy, he scares me.” I did not know how we would escape, I thought we were trapped forever.

Then his nephew told us to watch The Secret. The day I saw the film my whole life changed. I realized the one thing he could not control was my thoughts.

I would lay in bed every night visualizing my new life with out him in it. Slowly things started to line up. He allowed me to get my associate’s degree online for medical coding because I could do that job from home. Then when I graduated, I got a job where I had to work onsite for the first 3 months to be trained, then I could work from home.

Things just kept lining up and angels would show up in my life to help me escape. My coworkers, boss helped and my family helped and once the plan was in place I got out while I was still working. I packed up the kids for school and said I was leaving for work and taking them to the bus stop. Instead went to the courthouse, got a restraining order, and never looked back.

The power of thought is amazing. Not only did we escape, but everything I was visualizing was happening. He is not allowed to contact us or see the girls because of his illness and his violent nature and the divorce went smoothly. Since I had to leave my job, I did not have income but strangers showed up to help. Someone paid for the top lawyer in the area for my divorce and people helped with clothes and stuff for my kids and myself since we left with nothing. It is just amazing how everything lines up.

I continue to manifest what I want in my life and now I am creating workshops for women’s shelters to help them realize they have the power to change their lives too.

I am so grateful for everyone who has been a part of my journey and The Secret was the start of my new life!
