I had retired from barbering after 40 years at one shop in Illinois and moved to North Carolina to be near my grandchildren. I thought I would try some other vocations. I found out very quickly that most places do not want to hire 59-year-olds. We are too close to retirement age.

I went through a quick assortment of jobs that either paid poorly or I could not stand the lack of ethics required to make money. I started using the methods of visualization that I learned from The Secret and imagined myself receiving a job offer for my perfect job. I could feel my joy at receiving the offer and how happy I was to accept.

About two weeks later I took my wife to Mount Airy, NC, for a doctor’s appointment. This is the town where Andy Griffith grew up and there really is a Floyd’s Barbershop there. As a former barber, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to visit the Sistine Chapel of barbershops. I got to meet the owner, the son of the man on which Floyd the Barber on the Andy Griffith show was based, and we chatted. I told him I was a retired barber and he was pleased that I visited. I left Floyd’s and went to pick up my wife. We came back and had lunch next door to Floyd’s Barbershop. When we finished lunch and left to get in our car for the trip home, the owner of Floyd’s was leaving to run errands and he spotted me. He came over to meet my wife and thank me for visiting.

All of a sudden, he got a funny look on his face and said, “If you get tired of being a retired barber, you can come up and cut hair here.”

I’m now the shop barber at what is arguably the most famous barbershop in the world. It’s truly a job I absolutely love and I am so grateful. I believe completely that it was the law of attraction and lessons learned from The Secret that brought my dream job into being.
