Hello! I would like to share my story that may inspire and give hope to young mothers out there 🙂
My now 21 month old son stopped sleeping through the night when he was around 7 month. Since then he used to wake up 1-4 times a night and every now and then would end up in our bed. I forgot what it would be like to be rested! I could never do “cry it out”, so I tried to use the principles described in The Secret: Visualization (I visualized myself waking up in the morning, seeing light through the blinds and joyfully realizing that we all slept through the night), getting into the “feeling of the wish fulfilled” (imagining how it would feel if my son would start sleeping through the night). Every now and then it would work but there was never lasting effect and I would slip back into frustration about the whole issue. I even tried to just read a scientific book by a paediatrician on how sleep works, but that only seemed to complicate things and add to frustration and tension inside of me. A couple of weeks ago I ran across books by Florence Scovel Shinn. In her books she gives amazing affirmations for all areas of life. I have never been into plain affirmations, but hers seem to have power and vivid images behind the words. The main principle of the affirmations is that there is a Divine Design (perfect and harmonious development) for each and any situation in life. So all you have to do is to declare that it is taking place now and to have faith that God within (or the Power) never fails to provide that perfect situation. Since I wanted my child to sleep through the night I came up with the following affirmation: “There is a Divine Plan, a Perfect Schedule for my child’s day nap as well as his night sleep. It now comes to pass. Thank you” I repeated this several times, feeling how my tension about the whole issue all of a sudden became completely released! I’ve never been religious but I felt how relieving and empowering it is to trust God or Power within that it never fails to provide the thing you need. It’s been a week and my son sleeps through the night every night since then!!! I continue repeating the affirmation every night, KNOWING that there really IS the Divine Plan for my son’s night sleep 🙂 I realized why my previous attempts to use the Law of Attraction did not work – the resistance and doubts were still there and persistence in visualizing only added to the tension. Now I understand that all I had to do to fulfil my wish is to find something, anything that would help me get rid of the resistance about the sleep issue – and I finally did. I also like the affirmation that helps in other situations whenever I feel resistance – “I cast this burden on the God within and I go free”. I feel like I am walking on air, I am finally rested and happy every day.
