Chartered Accountant After 14 Attempts!
Submitted by: Himanshu jain
Jaipur, RajasthanThis is about my journey of becoming a Chartered Accountant after 14 attempts at the CA final exams.
Hey, I am a CA, a Chartered Accountant! I am Himanshu Jain from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Since this post is about my journey, I am taking the liberty to start it from the very beginning.
Everyone’s life is full of ups and downs and mine also had these tides. My journey of knowledge began in an AVM school in my hometown and later on, I continued at Maheshwari Higher Secondary School in XI standard. I could not get a good opportunity until class X to present and prove myself on any platform because I was too shy to be on any kind of platform. Somehow after reaching class XI, I faced the toughest decision of my life. I had to decide on an option to build my career. I was in a dilemma, should I go for commerce or science? Since my family is from a commerce background, I choose to go for commerce. I then got assent from my father for the commerce stream and that was the day I realized and learned to decide in favor of my own interests. This decision played a crucial role in my life.
Teachers indeed have an innate power to understand the capacity and confidence level of a student and nurture it. I feel blessed that I got the best teachers in class XI who motivated and supported me a lot. I cleared my class XII with 85% marks. I was a bright student in my studies and I always came in as one of the toppers, if not the number 1 topper of the class.
This was a turning point of my life and the road seemed to be a bit smoother.
I decided to pursue a CA course and finally got admission to pursue it after year XII. It has been very well said that life never remains the same, it keeps giving us new lessons, and eventually, I got my first lesson. While I was able to clear the CPT exam on the first attempt when most of my friends were not able to pass it on their first try, it did take me until my second try to pass the IPCC exam. That was something new for me.
Then articleship started. I believe that this training phase is the most important part of our professional life. Articleship is a mandatory requirement for all CA students, and it plays a crucial role in their journey towards becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant. During Articleship, CA students get an opportunity to work under a practicing Chartered Accountant and gain practical knowledge in the field
I learned a lot during those 3 years of training. I got an opportunity to work with various big corporate houses. I got the opportunity to learn SAP from the professionals working during a statutory audit of the Bajaj Group. This phase taught me many lessons and I learned to represent myself in front of others. The CA course gave me everything from the name to fame, and of course, a good source of income.
Then came the time to give the CA final exams. I cleared my first group in 2016 on my second attempt but could not clear the second group, even after 4 long years of passing my first group. I started to lose my motivation and became the punchline of a pun. Some said that I would not be able to become a CA in my lifetime. It was suggested by my fellow mates to leave the CA program but something kept me moving forward. Sometimes I felt like I needed to get away in between tough times but that was the level of motivation and inspiration that I carried from my school days. I somehow ignored their words and did not let their negative vibes enter my head.
Finally, it was the first day of February 2021. I was tense, scared, and also curious to know the final result. This was the 14th time that I had faced the CA final exam result. I probably remembered the name and image of every single God known to me before I saw the result. I was working in the office of my brother and was working on budget day workings and preparations when I heard the news about the announcement of the results. I opened my laptop and entered my details, placed the cursor on the submit button, closed my eyes, and finally clicked the submit button. Meanwhile, my heart was beating at a rapid pace.
I opened my eyes, looked at the screen, and guess what! I passed in the second group! Seeing this brought tears to my eyes. My father was also sitting beside me with folded hands. I looked at him and said, “Papa Ho Gaya” with tears in my eyes. That was the first time in my life I saw my father with teary eyes, what we call “Khushi ke Aansoo.” Then he offered all his blessings. So with that one click, my profile changed from Himanshu Jain to CA. Himanshu Jain and a new journey began. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
My journey so far is a journey from dusk to dawn, it is a journey of showing the courage to realize my dreams and it is a journey of struggles to live in those daydreams. Most importantly it is a journey going from Himanshu Jain to CA. Himanshu Jain.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
