Beyond My Wildest Dreams
Since I first started reading The Secret three years ago I can’t believe how radically my life has changed. A complete change of lifestyle beyond my wildest dreams, and new hope has become a reality for me.
My sister has been my mentor and inspiration in living the Law of Attraction, and back in 2007 we both remember so clearly standing in her art studio while she put me on the spot by asking me to name out loud three things that I really, really wanted in life. The three things I named were: to get rid of all my debt, to own a nice new reliable car, and to travel to Dubai and Europe.
Now if you knew what my life was like back then you would realise how impossible those three things seemed at the time.
In 2007 I had to resign from a well-paid career due to having an accident and damaging my spine – I was constantly in pain and had to give up the job I had worked so hard to get. With the drop in income and all the money I had spent with doctors and specialists I had accrued a pile of debt there didn’t seem any hope of paying off. I was a single parent with no savings, and had come out of a long term relationship with nothing to show for all those years despite long and expensive legal battles. Life had gone from bad to worse and there didn’t seem any hope at all. My car was unreliable and on its last legs, and the idea that I would ever have enough money to buy a new one or ever afford to travel to the other side of the world seemed like a far away and impossible dream. I was at a very low point and my health problems were getting worse due to all the stress.
I decided to just go ahead and do all the things my sister suggested and all the things I read about in The Secret. I had nothing to lose because I had already lost everything I had ever worked towards, including the man I had loved and the career I had loved.
I printed out photos of cars I liked and pasted them on photos of my driveway right outside my house. I made slideshows on my computer of the cities I wanted to visit in Europe, photos of airports, planes, and the amazing buildings in Dubai.
Some days I wanted to just give up hope because it all seemed so crazy and impossible. Then I did a lot of reading and studying of some of the old books mentioned in The Secret, which describe in detail the Law of Attraction and how to discipline the mind to attract only things you really want and only focus on the positive. I used meditation and many of the techniques given in those books.
Within a few short months some amazing things started to happen: out of the blue and purely by chance I found out that my accident insurance had a specific grant to cover buying a new car if it was approved by a physiotherapist. By the end of 2007 I was at the car yard test driving new cars and found one that was just perfect for me and my physical needs.
Then a unique opportunity came along for me to clear all of my debt within a few short weeks and make a clean slate. Although I was still on a limited income at least all my bank accounts were now in credit and I didn’t have any debts weighing me down.
In early 2008 I met a new friend from Europe who I helped a lot with settling in New Zealand and we became very close friends. His family were so grateful with all the help I had given they were inviting me to come and stay with them in Europe and wouldn’t accept any money from me! I still needed to find some money towards buying my plane ticket, but as soon as I made the decision that I really wanted to go the money just appeared in bits and pieces from all sorts of unexpected sources. By mid 2008 I had bought my ticket to Europe and was heading off for two months of sightseeing around beautiful historic cities. My hosts wouldn’t accept any money from me for food, accommodation, or petrol. I also got the chance to see members of my family who were living over there and who I missed so much.
In 2009 I found out my cousin was getting married in the UK and my mother really wanted to attend the wedding and see all her long lost family. That seemed impossible for her since she she was on a very modest pension and had to spend thousands of dollars on hearing aids because of losing her hearing. My sister and I told my mother about The Secret, and she took the idea a step further by actually going out and buying an outfit for the wedding, putting a photo of the new Emirates Airbus on her wall, and imagining herself going there every day. Well, another miracle happened! A number of old family friends heard about her dream and everyone put the money together to buy her ticket and for me to take her back to Europe because she didn’t want to travel alone. I really wanted to go back to Europe and suddenly I received a letter that I had a tax refund for exactly the amount I needed for the ticket.
Then one of our old family friends who had moved to Dubai invited us to come and stay with them on our stopover. They wanted us to stay in their beautiful apartment in Dubai and show us all around the amazing city for free. When we went to buy our tickets at the travel agent he told us it would be the same price to go on the new luxury airbus – the same one my mother had the picture of on her wall.
I knew my mother loved music and had always wanted to go to Salzburg and Vienna, but it seemed out of reach and so expensive. Well, through friends of friends and other contacts we were offered free accommodation in both of those cities and tickets to the Salzburg music festival to see Mozarts Requiem performed live in the Cathedral, which I knew was a dream of my mother’s.
Well, so many of our dreams came true last year and we had a fantastic trip, made wonderful new friends, and when we told everyone at the wedding the story of how we came to be there they couldn’t believe it!
When I returned to NZ last year all I could think about was finding a way to go back to Europe for longer and this time take my daughter and send her to school there. When my friends over there asked me if I was coming back I just told people off the top of my head I would be returning in May of 2010, and this time would be bringing my daughter, although I had no idea of how that would happen or with what money or where we would be staying. Well… you can guess what happened (again), and the many small miracles, unexpected tax refunds and chance encounters that appeared just recently which means I have packed up our house and belongings and we will be flying out together next week on our next big adventure. Everything I visualized down to the smallest detail, including the exact city I wanted to live in, has become reality, and I’ve met the most wonderful people who have helped all this happen. Every day feels like a blessing.
Discovering The Secret has been the most amazing thing that ever happened in my life. I start every day watching a video from The Secret TV and visualizing what I want to come true. Stay tuned for the next installment of my latest project I am working on right now!
