Belief and the Power of Prayer

Sunnyside, NYI am an actress/spokesmodel/cosmetics consultant originally from a town near Buffalo, NY. I just became an aunt for the first time this past January to twins! I'm very close to my family and friends. They mean the world to me. I'm a confessed workaholic but nonetheless, I try to live life to the fullest. If I can make someone laugh or lend them support in time of need, then I am fulfilled. I try to enjoy what life has to offer me.
I am a musical theatre performer. However, this past January I was diagnosed with a polyp on my right vocal chord. Somehow, I had a hemorrhage. I thought I just had laryngitis. I barely had any speaking voice and certainly no singing voice. Even though I was told this was nothing serious, I wanted it to be gone right away. My livelihood depended on my voice. I was told by the doctor that the only way the polyp would go away was by complete vocal rest for a year. They usually don’t go away without surgery.
I shed many tears. I had to stop auditioning for musical theatre productions. I had to stop singing. My passion, my talent, was suddenly taken away. The doctor suggested that I get it removed. He said with surgery and voice therapy, I should be back to normal.
However, since I had a busy trade show schedule as a spokesmodel, I couldn’t find two weeks of time to get the surgery done and recuperate – meaning rest my voice. So I scheduled the surgery in May. I was told I could continue the trade show work until May but I would have to minimize my talking so as not to make it worse.
For my birthday in January (after I was diagnosed), my friend had gotten me The Secret Gratitude Journal. I began writing in it every day. It made me realize that even though I didn’t have my full voice, there was a lot that I had to be grateful about. Every day I wrote as a grateful intention that I was grateful to have my voice back and that I didn’t need surgery.
Two weeks prior to the scheduled surgery, my parents asked our Priest back home to say a prayer for me. Not even a week later, at my pre-surgery appointment, I found out that the polyp was completely gone. It went away on its own!
I have always believed in the power of prayer and now I also believe in the power of The Secret. Thank you!!!
