When I was in the seventh grade I went to a misc. Christian school. At the school they had a gift shop. Which is really kind of odd, but the little kids could go the and buy candy and stickers and other cheap little things. They sold other things as well… Which brings me to my own little story.
One day after school I noticed a beautiful angel statue. She was white matte porcelain, the only color on her were her face, hands, and delicate silver accents. She was so pretty I just stared for at least five minutes. I wanted her, but she cost a lot more than I could afford at the time (money was very tight at home). I had no way to buy her, but that didn’t keep me from thinking about the little statue.
I went to see her every day before and after school, and thought about how wonderful it would be to have her (wow… I’m stating to cry…), that she was already mine. That went on for about a month.
Then one day I was called from class to go to the office. I’d never misbehaved back then, so it was a mystery. When I got to the office I was told by the secretary that there was something for me in the other room. I found that to be VERY strange… “Who would get me anything?” (I had very low self-esteem, and was bullied by the other students, which didn’t help). I entered the room, no one was there, just a table with a box on it… By then I was REALLY confused! So I opened the box… And it was her… my angel. Someone had anonymously bought her for me. I still have no idea who it was.
Then last January I went to a weekend long retreat, and on the first night they played The Secret. I wasn’t interested. I didn’t know what it was, but I didn’t really care either. Also I was getting a shoulder rub. But then I started listening to the video… it sounded kind of fun, with all of the little jokes thrown in. Then I really started watching (if it’s funny – not the at-others-expense kind of “funny” – I become interested). I was blown away! Afterwards I went to my room and started my own little lists. I followed those as well as most people do, ha ha… (though I STILL know that armoire is mine!). But the next morning as I thought about the stories and methods from the video, I remembered my angel. I had used everything from The Secret and it had worked, but I’d forgotten all of it. And the angel was packed away.
When I got home I unpacked her and placed her on the top of my tv to remind me that all I had to do was ask.
My story was a bit reverse-y from everyone else’s, but I wanted to share it anyway.
