Acting “As if “

Sacramento, CaliforniaA 31 year old female who makes it a point to be grateful for all the experiences I have had.
In April of 2008, I was laid off after 4 years from a job I loved due to the downturn of the economy. After 6 months of unemployment I was pretty much at my wits end. I was single, getting ready to lose said unemployment which barely covered rent and food and in my state of mind was shaky to say the least.
After sending out multiple resumes (178 to be exact) I only heard back from 6 of them – all telling me the position had already been filled. By now I was desperate for any sort of positive change in my life, but had no idea how to make that happen.
Prior to all of this, I had heard about the Secret, but had never bothered to read much about it or really care because I couldnt see how it would affect me. Soon after the above events, I went to my local bookstore and picked up a copy of the Secret DVD. I watched it over and over again each and every day making myself aware of my thoughts and actions and focusing on a more positive and grateful attitude. About two weeks after watching the Secret, I made my own vision board with the top 5 things I was most grateful for (even though they hadn’t actually manifested yet.) I changed the screensaver on my phone and marquee on my alarm to say “What R U Gr8ful 4?” So every time I woke up or got a call, it was like a message to myself to remember to be grateful for everything I had because although I was struggling, I still had a great deal more than some people ever get in a lifetime.
Around the middle of October 2008, one of my bosses from my old job called me to say the company located next door to them had a job opening and he recommended me for the position. About an hour later, the office manager called me and asked me to come in for an interview that day. She said it was only a temporary position, but I didn’t care, it was a job and it was going to be my job.
A few weeks into it, I made my own “business cards” with my name and job title on them. I kept one in my wallet and one on my vision board and made sure to look at it several times a day to really let it sink in that this was going to be my new, permanent job.
In January of 2009 they offered me a permanent position with the company and as of today April 2010, I am an assistant to one of the partners of a prestigious law firm. I know that my attitude of gratitude and strong belief brought me to where I am today. So far, four of my Top 5 things have manifested for me and I know it is just a matter of time before a new Top 5 list comes into play. When I am having a bad day, I think back to being along, sad, jobless and broke and know how far I have come and that when I look at the big picture, things only seem to be getting better.
Who knows what the Secret will bring me next? Thats right I do!
