A Winning Diamond
Submitted by: Amy K
Suburb of Chicago, ILI'm a mom, happily married, with two boys. I have a good life, and it keeps getting better. Also have 3 dogs. We live in the country. I work together, with my husband.
My son and I listened to the radio every day. We were involved in the current contest the local station had going. You would have to listen for the word of the day then enter it online. After a month or so, they would pick the winners for all the prizes. This was great fun for my son. Day after day they’d announce more prizes, and we would discuss them, and say – oh that would be nice. And of course there would always be a special announcement about the grand prize, a one carat diamond. After doing this for a few weeks, my son would just look at me and state, don’t worry mom, you’re going to win. At first I thought nothing of it, but he repeated this to me many, many times. We kept collecting words until the very end. Soon we’d be getting an email if we had won anything. Well, I got one. I was one of sixty contestants for the grand prize, the one carat diamond.
I was happy I was chosen. All contestants had to be at the jewellery store the following week, right around dinner time. I thought I’d make the best of the night out, so I brought my husband and two boys. I wanted a hamburger from the diner next door, not expecting to win a thing.
Once in the jewellery store, you could see there were sixty bags on a table. Finally, each contestant was called one by one. You would go up to the table and pick one bag. I asked my son which bag I should pick, he just looked at me and said – you’ll know mom. You’ll know. He was so unbelievably calm.
I used the family lucky number to pick my bag, and then I waited. After everyone had a bag, we were allowed to open them – simultaneously. In everyone’s bag there was an envelope. In it was either the winner announcement, or a thank you for entering note and a fake diamond. It was so intense.
I opened my envelope and inside I could see the brightest green paper inside. I looked at the woman’s next to me and she had a beautiful creamy letter, with gold around the edge. I thought she won, of course. The certificate was gorgeous. Then I pulled out my letter. The green paper was glowing it was so bright. I unfolded the letter and across the inside it said WINNER! I almost fainted. The noise in the room was so loud. I was instantly in shock, and then I started to scream. My son was right. He just knew.
My other son stood by his dad and just said, There’s a lady screaming by mom. Then he looked closer and said, Wow it’s mom. My husband couldn’t believe it. That was how I learned that The Secret works. This event happened a couple months before The Secret came out. And it explains how it came to be, completely.
