I live in New York. Like many of you, I live day to day hearing negative stories about the economy. I choose my experiences, though, so I choose to walk past that energy and believe in success, abundance and hope.

I moved into a new apartment recently. It’s great but it is unfurnished. So for weeks now I had to sleep on a couple of blankets on the bedroom floor while working various jobs. I’ve really wanted a bed. Your back and hip muscles ache badly when you have to sleep on the hard floor someplace. I knew I needed and wanted a soft place to sleep, and I also knew about The Secret – so I just affirmed, I will soon have a nice soft bed, and I went about my life.

After a couple weeks, I noticed a mattress and box spring down the street at a neighbor’s building. I asked about it, but getting closer to it, I realized it was soiled and dirty, and not the right size. My roommate advised me to let it go, and said he would try to find another mattress for me. Life got in the way and he forgot his promise. I put it out of mind and went on about my life, working, staying positive.

This morning was crisp, cool and beautiful. I did not have a mattress or bed on my mind as I tidied my bedroom. After tidying, I went on my favorite social network and said hello to several friends. A strange sensation came over me. An inner voice nudged me, “Get something to drink from the corner tienda (corner market). Don’t you want something to drink? Aren’t you thirsty? Go on, go get something cool and frosty to drink down the street from the corner store.” So I went.

As soon as I walked out the door of my apartment, you guessed it, directly across the street I spotted a crystal-clean, immaculate, brand new mattress set, still in its plastic wrapping from the furniture store, left out as trash for any person to take away. (Note to non-New Yorkers reading this: in NYC, if you are giving away something useful, you put it out in front of your house or apartment, and someone who needs it can freely come by and take it to use. Kind of a reuse and recycle tradition here – we call it a curb alert.) 🙂

I walked over, inquired about the mattress, and heard with disbelief the former owners had gotten a brand new set of mattresses and no longer needed the previous brand new one! I could hardly understand the story! “Take it,” the couple said, “if you can move it, it’s yours.” I moved the mattress to my apartment building, and it got stuck as I tried to get it up the stairs.

“The Secret will send along somebody strong to help me,” I said to myself, and went back outside to wait. Soon a man came by, and I asked him if he could help me. He helped me get the mattress easily up the stairs into my apartment. It fits my bedroom perfectly, is brand new, is clean and unused, as if it came from the store!

The Secret is fantastic and it does work. Once you put it out there what you want, and release it to the Universe, then the Universe moves in to surprise you. I put it out there I wanted the perfect soft place to sleep – and tonight, it is mine!
