My husband and I had struggled for years and years to make ends meet. We started off very young and it seemed as though everything we did ended in disaster. We were both working at low-paying jobs, living in a mobile home, drowning in debt and fussing constantly. We could not be happy because we were so focused on everything we didn’t want, that we just kept pulling it to us, perpetuating an endless cycle of debt, need, and unhappiness.

I began college classes, thinking that would fill a void in my life and push us into a better money position, but it only got us further in debt. I changed jobs, which meant more money, but still, debt. We dreamed of owning a real house, but we felt like we could not afford it. We were already stretched to the limit with our budget.

In 2007, my mother-in-law handed me a copy of The Secret book on CD. She told me to listen to it. She was very excited about it. I have never been one to be interested in self-help stuff so I took it, thinking I would probably never listen to it. I popped it into my CD player in my car, though, and began to listen. I was absolutely blown away. I could not stop listening to it. I listened over and over and over, while I drove, while I walked, while I laid in bed.

One day, while I was walking, I placed my order to the Universe for my new house. I did not waste energy worrying about where the money would come from or how to make it happen. I just asked, and believed. I went home and drew a pencil drawing of “My Dream House”. I drew the full length porch, log siding, tin roof, and wooden door. I placed it on my refrigerator door and forgot about it. I was so sure I already had it that I did not worry about getting it.

About 8 months later, my husband came home very excited talking about buying a house that he had always wanted down the road from us. I got excited too, but it wasn’t my dream house so I just could not totally love it. I signed all the papers and did all the footwork. We were in the final stages of purchasing the house when the bank backed out on us. My husband was crushed but I did not worry. I knew that my dream house was on the way.

I was minding my own business at work one day, when my husband called to say that he had gone to a bank in another town and spoken to a loan officer. He told my husband that there should be no problem getting the money to build a house and to bring in an estimate. I did not think about it, I just waited to see what happened. He took the estimate in a couple days later, and two days after that we were signing the papers to get our house loan for my dream house.

We chose a very simple floor plan, the concrete layers were available the following Monday, our builders were ready as soon as they were done, our sheet rock guys were ready as soon as we were, and so it went.

We began in September, 2008, and moved in December 26, 2008. Everyone told me I would fight and fuss with my husband, but we never disagreed about one single thing. We did a lot of the work ourselves and I love it. Incidentally, our bills are lower since building the house because we were able to consolidate and get a better interest rate.

I forgot about The Secret until I was moving one of the last boxes of stuff out of the trailer. I happened to see the picture, labelled “My Dream House” sitting in a box. I was thunderstruck! I had used The Secret and it had worked! I was so shocked and happy I almost felt sick! I ran to tell my husband and he just laughed at me.

I have told countless people about The Secret and how it worked for me. I still use it, and yes, I get checks in the mail. I am a creator and will only get better at it as I practice it every day!
