$1000 Debt Settled With A Quarter!!!!
Submitted by: Greg L.
Sykesville, MDI am an unemployed actor. I grew up in MD and went to college in Oregon.
I had purchased The Secret book of The Magic and was working my way through the book. I came to the chapter on being grateful when you pay your bills.
I had been doing the book religiously, but was upset, as I had already paid my bills and had no money to pay for old debts. Determined, I did a budget and realized I had an extra $3 I could spend. But that would mean, in order to pay 10 bills, that I would only have to send them a quarter each.
I am a recovering alcoholic who has almost 2 years sober, so I asked my sponsor what he thought about sending my debt collectors a quarter. He said, “If that’s all you have, you do what you can. That is good.” Someone else who had 30 years clean said the same thing, as well as a “normie”.
Still reticent, I decided to commit to the exercise. I wrote thank you on each little piece of paper that they include for you to put in the envelope with your money and generally felt grateful for their services and for each quarter I was putting in.
Honestly, I felt it was stupid at first, but, with each bill paid, I was becoming more and more grateful and my feelings were lifting higher and higher. By the time I was done I felt so good.
Off in the mail they went and I didn’t think anything of it anymore.
About a month and a half later, I received a letter from an old credit card company I had owed $1,000 to.
It went something like this:
Dear Greg L.,
We received your payment of $0.25. Thank you.
Under the circumstances of your payment, we have deducted that you are in no position to pay this debt. We, therefore, have decided to completely forgive this debt. You now owe us nothing. Please do not send us any more money and thank you again for your payment.
Sincerely,
The credit card
company
They settled a $1,000 debt for a quarter!!!!!!!
On top of that, I was having a bad day up until I opened that letter(which I thought was another bill. Tears of joy and gratitude welled up in my eyes. It not only made my day; it made my week.
Thank you so much for The Magic, Rhonda!!!!! And, for that chapter!!!!!
Gratitude really is magic!!!!!!!!!!!
