Ok so I’ve never been the most academic type. I love learning but have never been wonderful at it, when my friends were achieving A’s and were ecstatic I was getting C or B. All through my GCSE’s it got me down and just before taking my exams my Mum gave me the book version of The Secret and told me to think positive and imagine passing all of my exams. I did it and succeeded and felt extremely proud of myself.
I started my A levels and once again found it difficult, I decided to set myself a goal of getting in to Sheffield Hallam University to do media studies (my favourite subject) and every day since starting my final exams in year 13, I imagined myself living in Sheffield, attending the lectures and living in the accommodation I applied for. I didnt even consider what would happen if I didnt get it, I KNEW I would. I fully believed that I would be accepted regardless of whether I met the grades for getting in… I believed there was something special about my personal statement or my grades that would gain me the right to study there. I also had a picture of the Sheffield Hallam Uni hoodie on my mirror and every day I imagined me wearing it.
Leading up to results day all my friends and everyone else in my year were panicking and stressing out but I stayed calm because I thought there was no need to panic, I already HAVE my place there. I just have to wait for UCAS to update and tell me my place is unconditional.
I woke up at 7am on the Thursday morning when I was due to get my results and I signed onto UCAS and as soon as I checked my offers I saw next to Sheffield Hallam it said “unconditional” I screamed and bounced all over my room before calling all of my relatives to give them the good news.
I am due to start there for freshers week in September and I have never been happier.
DO NOT believe that just because you’re not a high achiever academically you cannot achieve your dreams. Whatever you want you can have, just believe you already have it.
Oh and just to add to my story… without The Secret I would not have passed my driving test. I ran over a path 2 minutes into it because I was nervous but I chose to ignore it and told myself the examiner didnt notice and 40 minutes later she gave me my certificate to say I passed. (I am now a very good driver and havent run over a path since passing!)
I find that typing a message into my phone before an event that I want to happen works… before my driving test I saved a message in my phone that said ‘I PASSED MY DRIVING TEST’ and Id planned to send it to my family and friends and sure enough I got to send it. The same goes for getting into Sheffield Hallam.
