Getting the job you want!

Washington, DCMid-thirties, single professional.
I wanted a new career, and I decided on a very niche field. In fact, there are fewer than 10 firms in the US in this line of work. The work was somewhat similar to what I did before, but there would still be a significant learning curve.
I researched the firms in this industry, and identified 2 firms I wanted to work with. A friend of a friend got me an interview at the first firm, but there wasn’t a good match with the team. I knew no one at the second firm, and their website said that they weren’t hiring. I emailed the CEO my resume anyway, with a detailed letter telling him why he couldn’t afford not to hire me. He called me in for an interview, but said that a new hire wasn’t in the budget right away.
I put the Secret to work. I wrote a mock offer letter (from the CEO to me) and kept it with me at all times. And I kept letting the company know that I was interested. I called or emailed every 2 weeks or so, and I scheduled meetings with the team where I continued to sell my skills.
5 months after I sent the first contact, I was offered a position. The terms were almost identical to the ones I outlined in my mock offer letter!
