I have been reading “The Secret”, and I am amazed at the fact that all of the good things that I have in my life are the direct result of positive visualization and positive thinking.
I was born into a family of nine children to a clinically depressed mother and an alcoholic father. My parents did not take care of my basic needs, so my grandmother decided that she would take care of me. She cared for me and loved me from age 3 months to age 5, which was when she died from cancer. After she died I went back to live with my parents and siblings. The family was extremely dysfunctional, and after experiencing physical abuse and a situation where I almost died, I knew I had to find a way to survive. I decided to walk to my Aunt’s house with my belongings in a brown paper bag. I knocked on her door and said, “Aunt Millie I have come to stay with you.” I was age 7 at the time. She took me in and took care of me until I graduated from high school.
Despite my traumatic early childhood and being diagnosed with ADHD, I have been very successful in my life. I have a beautiful and loving wife (it is our 20th anniversary next week!), two wonderful teenage boys, a beautiful executive home, a career as a child and adolescent psychologist, a career as a Taekwno-Do instructor/school owner, and I am also a singer, songwriter, and guitar player. I have used positive thinking and positive imagery to accomplish all my goals. I would see myself working as a psychologist and write, “Scott **** Psychologist,” after my name daily. I followed the same process for achieving my Black Belt in Taekwon-Do and eventually reaching the level of 7th Degree Black Belt (there are only 5 people at this level in our organization in CANADA).
If you can conceive it and believe it (and feel it) then you can achieve it, resonates throughout my entire life experience, and I know that it will continue to create a positive future for myself and my family. I have also used the attitude of gratitude on a daily basis, and I am always thankful for what I have.
May the power of the “Secret” be with you and with you always.
