I was skeptical… but I still got the car!

St. Paul, MNI'm a web designer with a major retail corporation.
I’d heard about The Secret when it attracted a lot of attention after being discussed on Oprah, but never really investigated. I finally became intrigued earlier this year, bought the book and rented the DVD. I thought the principles were intriguing and though I was skeptical, I decided it certainly couldn’t hurt to try it!
I bought a journal and wrote in it what I wanted, and what I was grateful for. Among those things, I wrote that I wanted a 2008 Nissan Versa with moonroof, power windows, keyless entry, CD player, and spoilers. I specified a color, but in the intervening time, I changed my mind and decided I wanted a different color.
I did that in March. I spent a few days focusing on it and noticed that it made me a lot more focused and positive in general. But then life intervened as usual, and I fell out of doing the exercises after a week or so.
A few weeks ago my 9-year-old car developed engine trouble, and I decided it was finally time to replace it. Though I still wanted a Versa, I knew that I didn’t want to spend the money on a brand-new car, and they were very difficult to find used with the options I wanted. I shopped the used car sites daily, but kept my eye out for other vehicles I’d be satisfied with.
Lo and behold, on Sunday, June 8th, I found an ad for a used 2007 Versa in precisely the trim and color I wanted, with every feature I’d written down, and very low mileage because it was a former fleet vehicle. Though the dealerships were closed that day, I drove to the lot to look at it, and decided to contact the dealer first thing the next morning. I was approved for a loan with a decent rate, and as of Monday afternoon, the car is now in my possession! Virtually new (only 10 months old!) and much more affordable than a brand-new model.
I think that one of the principles of the Secret is that the Universe doesn’t magically guarantee that things will come to you with no effort on your part. That’s what living “as if” means, to me. Between the time that I first wrote down my “order to the Universe” for this car and the day I bought it, I focused heavily on putting myself in a great financial position. I paid off my credit cards and my student loans – something the Universe helped me do 3 months early, thanks to an unexpected bonus at work and the economic stimulus! (Paying off my student loans was also on my “order to the Universe”.) And because I did that, when this car became available, I was able to immediately and confidently make the purchase!
All I can say is that you can’t argue with results. In March I wrote down that I wanted this car. And in June, I have it. Thank you, Secret!
