A few months ago I was reading a Sunday magazine and noticed a pair of shoes on the fashion pages. I’m not a shoe person, but for the first time I thought how lovely these shoes were and how I would like them. They were £50 and I’m a stay at home mum… so I just forgot about it.

That night, I told my husband it was time we watched The Secret DVD I’d purchased over a year ago. I had read the book prior to this. My husband Terry was going for a promotion interview that week and I thought it might help him.

After watching it I said to Terry, “I saw the most gorgeous shoes in this magazine today, and so now I believe they are mine, they are going to come to me one way or another.” He laughed and said, “But you’re not even into shoes.”

I got on the internet hoping to find them for sale somewhere, but couldn’t find them anywhere. Then I found the website for these shoes (Bronx shoes), and realised they are not based in the UK. Still believing 100% these shoes would be mine, I found a picture of them and printed it out. Then I noticed that each month they run a competition to win a pair of their shoes. To enter I just had to tell them which shoes I liked and why, and then I would win them. Terry came in and I said, “There you go, that’s how the shoes will come to me, I’m going to win the competition.”

I typed out my entry without thinking too much about it: ‘Yesterday in the UK magazine, I saw these amazing shoes, they are gorgeous. Never has a pair of shoes had this affect on me. I can see myself in them, I can feel them on my feet, I can hear my friends saying “Oh my god, where did you get those shoes?” But alas I cannot find them on the UK websites so that I can order them. The only way is for me to win them in this competition… um that would be lovely.’

Then I stuck the picture of the shoes on my fridge, wrote ‘my shoes’ on them, and each day I would look at them and see myself in them. My friend Carroll saw this and I told her the story. She has read this book so half believed me, and kept texting me saying, ‘Have you got your shoes yet,’ and I told her each time, ‘No, it will be the end of the month I get them.’

On 28th February my sister Caroline was visiting, and asked me what the picture was on my fridge. I told her and said I fully believed the shoes were mine! She was intrigued but at the same time I don’t think she believed me! Then that afternoon I checked my email and there it was, my message from Bronx shoes telling me, ‘Congratulations, you are the winner of the Bronx contest of the month of February!’

A few days later, I had my shoes! My sister who is often skeptical about things like this quickly demanded to borrow the DVD.

What amazes me though is that I have told everyone I know about this, and only 2 people have asked for the name of the book/DVD. Do people find it that hard to believe that by thinking positively you might get exactly what you want? Many people have just looked amused when I tell them, as if they think I am mad. But I’m not too worried, as I’m the one sitting here with beautiful ‘free’ shoes!

When I started to think about it, I realised that this theory of law of attraction really works. We tried for over 2 years to have a baby and I thought, ‘It’s never going to happen.’ Then one month I woke up and said, ‘This month we are going to get pregnant.’ And we did, and now have a beautiful 15 month old, Flynn! Is it because I believed it was going to happen? I think it is.
