Overcoming Unthinkable Odds.

Oakdale PennsylvaniaI am a 52 year old, single woman. I have been a hairstylist for 20 years in the same salon, knowing most of my clients for that period of time. I am an exceptionally positive person with a overzealous perspective on life. Let's just say, I prefer to see the glass half full, encouraging others to do the same.
Back in September 2017, my brother, who lives in Georgia, came home for a visit. When he left, I mentioned to my parents that he didn’t look well. They said he is just growing older, and considering it had been a while since we had seen him, I thought maybe they were right, but there was something that was telling me different. Come October, my brother wasn’t feeling well, and decided to have some tests run. A few months later, he had found out that he had leukemia, and he would need a stem cell transplant in May. At the same time his wife, whom he had been in a relationship with for around 40 years, decided that she no longer wanted to be together. She was leaving him and their son stating, and I quote, “Your family can take care of you.”
My brother, of course devastated, felt empty and at a loss as of what to do. It was quite a challenge for me as well, having plenty of conversations on the phone and trying to guide him through this difficult time. My family came together trying to help in every way that we could, including my father, who takes care of my mother. He went down to Georgia to help for a few months, considering that without a caregiver, my brother’s transplant could not take place.
So, in the midst of everything that was happening, I bought my brother “The Secret” and wrote inside, “I hope this book changes your life as it did mine.” His response to me was, “I may read it.” I knew in my heart he would make the right decision.
My brother went back to work this September, a year later. After reading The Secret, his life has changed in so many ways. My brother survived what he thought may be the impossible. He lives life in a different way, always talking positive and using positive approaches each day, being grateful after having survived impossible odds.
I believe that giving him The Secret, gave him the positive perspective he needed to move forward in life, because I know the day I changed my way of thinking, my life changed!
I encourage everyone to read The Secret, hoping they will feel as I do. Feeling grateful.
