I had heard about “The Secret” from my Sociology professor, during a class several months ago. He asked if anyone had read it, and what they had thought. I found it odd, that he had passed judgment on the book, referring to it as dribble and another example of a new age positive thinking cash in. I was intrigued only because I had a strange curiosity to see why he had developed such a strong prejudice to a book that he had not read himself. Since my professor is well respected and is a very good teacher, I decided at the time to save my money and not get the book. It is now several months later, and the thought about the book had not crossed my mind.

I was reading some stories on a woman who had won the lottery, and how she had read “The Secret”. My curiosity was once again piqued, and I headed off to the mall. After finishing Christmas shopping, I went to the book store and located the last copy of the book. In all honesty, after shopping I did not have the full amount to purchase the book. I read some parts of “The Secret” hoping that I could derive enough information to learn this “secret”. I left the mall, two days ago, wanting the book, and certain that I would find a way to get it.

Yesterday, December 31st, I found some extra cash and was excited that I would be able to buy the book. I was a little bit worried, as it was the last copy, and I had been advised that with the holidays there would not be another shipment for some time. The day I had visited the store however, when I had realized I did not have enough cash, I had placed the book on a shelf opposite to its original position, without really considering it. When I returned to the store, it was still in this same place. As it was new years eve (yesterday), I went into the house and went about making some snacks and a movie for me and my children, as we did not have the money to go out. I began reading the book at around 9pm, and found myself halfway finished it by 1am. I decided to employ some of the methods right away, and I went to bed visualizing receiving some money for today, and the day being great, and me being happy and energized.

When I woke, I got up with amazing positivity and energy, and I decided to go on and check my bank account. I really don’t know why I did this, as I was expecting some money but due to the holidays I was not to receive it until next week. To my shock, two separate amounts had been deposited, one that was expected and one that was not. The first was a payment from work, not expected until Friday, and the other (of which I called the bank to verify it) appears to be from an award. I had applied for financial aid through the government quite some time ago, and had virtually forgotten it. I qualified, and over 3500 dollars was deposited into my account last night at midnight! Even so, this award should not have shown up until next week at the earliest, as the persons responsible for the transfer are not in office.

As a side note, my daughter has been wanting me to go sledding with her, but I desperately need snow pants. I went into a store on Monday, and was told that the sale price was no longer in effect. This morning, after having my windfall, I checked out the website and found that the sale appeared to be still in effect. I called the local store, and to my surprise someone answered, even though it is a holiday. I told the woman about what I had found on the website, and as it turns out she was the regional manager and was only there because they were doing stock. She apologized for the situation, and said that she would leave a pair in my size out for tomorrow, at 30% off. These were normally over 90.00, something that I would have otherwise had a difficult time affording.

So, perhaps my story isn’t all that exciting or sensational, but, I tell you..I AM A BELIEVER… Thank you very much.
