I discovered The Secret two years ago, and it was a word in season for me. My job was in a difficult place due to a series of changes, we had just lost one of our rescue pets to cancer, and my father-in-law was in that awful, final stage of dementia where they’re in and out of the hospital and rehab facilities. I felt like my life was completely controlled by others and by circumstances beyond my control, and I’d had enough. I was sick all of the time, and I gained nearly twenty pounds, probably because I was turning to food for comfort. I knew I was seeking something, but I didn’t know what. Then one day, my husband picked up The Secret on a whim at the bookstore, and decided to watch the film on Netflix shortly after. It only took a few minutes to discover what my problem was: I’d allowed too much negativity into my life, and it was time to change my frequency!

I’ll be honest and say that the change in my attitude was faster than the changes manifesting in my life. I’d been allowing the build-up of negativity for years, so it took some time to purge it and really get on a better frequency before things started to change. But change they did! I committed myself to replacing complaint with gratitude, and made a point to be thankful for every “break” that came into my life. Soon, they started to multiply. I had wanted to write another Sci-Fi book, and found myself with an idea for a trilogy, which I did write and I recently published Book 1. There was an internal reorganization at my workplace that resulted in me being moved to a workgroup that was significantly more gracious and less stressful than the area where I had been languishing for four years. I committed myself to a diet and exercise program, and lost nearly 20 pounds. I don’t get sick as much, and my doctor said at a recent physical that I’m in the best shape she’s ever seen me in.

I’m 40 years old, folks. It’s never too late, or too soon. My story is a perfect example of how you can start where you are and build what you want with what you’ve got, and you have a lot more than you realize!

The Secret works, folks, and it keeps working in my life. I don’t wake up scared of what I might face anymore. I don’t dread leaving the house. I don’t have that knot in my stomach while I get dressed for work in the mornings anymore, or come home so frustrated and exhausted that I can’t relax. I am finally the person I want to be, and I keep finding more miracles in everyday life. There’s no drama anymore.

I wondered at one point if I’d ever be happy again. I can honestly say that I am now. All I had to do was make the decision, and I found the magic I needed to transform my life within me. Others don’t steer my ship anymore now, I do. And now I’m happy and they’re completely baffled!
