When I Had Almost Given Up!
Submitted by: Catia
Sintra, PortugalA 35 y.o. soon-to-be mom living in beautiful Portugal and being grateful every day.
My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant since February.
I had an app which would let me know my most fertile period. I was taking great care with what I ate and drank. I used to make jokes, saying that I was living like a nun and eating healthier than an athlete. Still, every month I’d have my period, sometimes with a 7 day delay, which meant I would start to get my hopes high only to find out I was not pregnant yet. Although I realized that waiting 5 months to get pregnant is within the “norm”, this cycle was starting to put a toll on my health, both physical and mental. On top of that, my husband did some health check ups and found out he had several health issues, which probably were making it difficult for us to get pregnant. We actually started considering going for artificial insemination.
The 4 weeks before our August vacation were incredibly stressful to me, mostly because of work. By then, I had already given up on the app I had downloaded and didn’t even notice any changes in cervix mucus, a well known indicator of a woman’s fertile period. I thought to myself “I’ll get back on track after my Summer vacation”.
We spent 2 weeks near the beach, eating and drinking without any major concerns. In the mean time I was expecting my period to show up, but I hadn’t even brought my notebook with me, so I wasn’t sure of when to expect it, although I knew it would be around mid-August.
On the 24th we bought a pregnancy test and bam, a clear positive! I decided to take another test first thing in the morning the next day because of the hormone levels and another clear positive!
I immediately called the hospital to book an appointment with my doctor and managed to secure an appointment for the 5th of September. This appointment would probably give me the 100% certainty that I was pregnant, although by my account I got pregnant by the end of July in that really stressful period.
Fast forward to the end of the holidays and I’m home writing down notes in my notebook, the one I had forgotten to take with me. I go over to the first week of September and I see written on September 5th “I’m going to be a mommy!”.
The thing is, I don’t even recall having written this!!
The moment this happened I recalled so many stories I had read here and it was like something clashed inside of me! I thanked the Universe, God and the Angels! It’s hard to translate this feeling!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
