Hello all,

I’ve been reading your stories for months, and they help me remember the magic. I could write dozens of stories about amazing things that have happened since I learned of The Secret years ago, but I chose to submit this one. I hope it uplifts some of you, as it has often reminded me of the magic within us and all around us.

About five years ago, I watched a movie about a woman who moved to Italy and was trying to find love. In this movie, “ladybugs” is this catchphrase that is symbolic of love in that, a woman tells her that when she was a girl, she always chased after ladybugs and could never catch them until one day she fell asleep in the grass and awoke with ladybugs crawling all over her. At the end of the movie, the main character’s ‘Mr. Right’, finds her by picking a ladybug off her while she is sleeping on a lawn chair.

OK, to get to the point: As the credits rolled on the happy ending, I was inspired and had that warm, fuzzy, ‘happy ending’ feeling, and the words just popped out of my mouth, “I wish I had ladybugs too! Lots and lots of ladybugs!”

I lived in New York City at the time, and didn’t have a car, nor did I ever take trips out of state. Well, I ended up renting a cabin a six hour drive away in Pennsylvania, and a friend of mine came from Virginia to pick me up, and we drove there together. It was all highly unlikely, and I had never done a trip like that before. I just found the place on the internet and rented it.

When we arrived and put our bags upstairs, we found an extra room in the attic. We opened the doors, and there were swarms of ladybugs! All weekend, the house was full of ladybugs. There were many hundreds of them!

Now, it’s a little gross, I guess, to have that many insects, but still, it was completely amazing, and I could not help but think that it was no coincidence! I had made the wish with so much feeling. Of course, I meant I wanted lots and lots of love, but I said ladybugs.

I never knew ladybug nests even existed before that. I had never before nor again, went to that cabin, and as I lived in New York City at the time, well, finding myself surrounded by thousands of ladybugs was highly unlikely. What are the odds, mathematically speaking? Of all the places I could have rented, of all the places I could have gone? If I had actually tried to find ladybugs, it would have been hard. But I made a wish, and within less than 2 weeks, it came true!

When I got home, I wished I had taken one home with me to remind me of this amazing magic. We had kept our bags zipped up to keep out the bugs. When I unpacked my bags, at the bottom of the duffel bag was one dead ladybug. It had exactly 18 spots, as I somehow knew it would. My birthday is the 18th, and it is a very lucky number for me.
