Lung Transplant
Submitted by: Maureen Markham
AustraliaI am 60 years old and this story is about my daughter and I.
My daughter was born with Cystic Fibrosis and she needed a lung transplant when she was 24 years old. She travelled 5,000kms to Sydney to wait for lungs to be ‘donated’. After waiting 19 months we decided we would make it happen by visualising it happening.
At the beginning of Septemer 1999 we created our vision that she would receive her lungs in September 1999 and lived our lives as if it was happening. It was decided I would travel to Sydney when she got the call that there were lungs available for her. As I was working I decided I needed to finish tasks that would need to be done when I was away in Sydney. I didn’t plan to be at work in October and confirmed this with my boss on many occasions. He didn’t believe me but I knew different.
When I left work on the 24th September I was thinking of the few tasks I still needed to finish, but my daughter received the call on the 25th September that lungs were available and she was operated on the 26 September 1999. I flew to Sydney and arrived as she woke up from the operation.
She survived another 7 years but sadly lost her battle. We were grateful for the gift we received which prolonged her life.
