Offered my dream job suddenly!

Melbourne, AustraliaDown-and-out graphic designer leaves the field to fashion a new career.
During the last three years I’d been working as a graphic designer although losing clients. I ended up working at places that would either outsource or downsize, leaving me jobless only a few months after being hired. Even though I’d studied hard and worked for years at it, deep down I knew graphic design wasn’t where I was meant to be.
I took on a call centre role not far from home and loved the customer service side of things. I thought about my time working in retail clothing almost seven years ago, and wondered if I could go back. I wanted to have my own shop one day, but it seemed like I’d need to start all over again, I’d been away from retail for so long. It all seemed so far away, but it felt like the right direction, and the ‘owning a shop’ idea was in my thoughts often.
Outside of work I was spending most of my time sewing clothing, I just couldn’t seem to enjoy graphic design as an activity any more. The role at the call centre was outsourced overseas with only a few weeks’ notice, so in my spare time I started applying for jobs. My job ended.
Not knowing where I would go next, in amongst the stream of jobs I applied for, I applied for a job at an upmarket shirting boutique. In the next week, I was interviewed for the position on Tuesday and advised that I would hear back by Friday. I went to my graphic design website that same afternoon, took down all my design work, and put up a notice explaining that my graphic design business was now closed.
I received a call that same Tuesday afternoon from the shirting boutique owner, explaining that they’d fast-tracked the other applications and would like to offer me the job of Store Manager. I was shocked, up until that moment I hadn’t realised I’d interviewed for the manager role. Happily, I immediately accepted.
