Frustrated no more

PhilippinesI'm a 21-year-old female driver.
Driving had always been my biggest frustration in life. I took driving lessons in 2008 but due to my busy schedule, I didn’t get to practice. Consequently, everything that I learned kind of went down the drain. I got terribly frustrated to the point that I envied those who got to drive on their own before I did, knowing that I learned how to drive before them.
As we had very lenient license processing in our country, I got my license without having to undergo a practical exam; all I had to take was a written exam. Though I already had my license, I still couldn’t drive on my own. I knew that I had to gain more confidence. A few months after I got my license, I decided to get back to driving so I sought help from my dad. Unfortunately, his impatience didn’t help so I kind of gave up again.
I got more frustrated with myself. But then realization dawned on me: the more frustrated I got, the more I won’t get what I want. For this reason, I set a goal. I made a promise to myself that I will take a refresher course in driving during my semester break. As the semester break was still months away, I told myself, “you have around 5 months to exercise the creative process.” So every day, for 5 months, that’s what I had been doing. I visualized myself behind the wheel, feeling as if driving was second nature.
Come semester break, I finally took the refresher course and I am glad to say that it went really well. My instructor was really great; he never made me feel like a failure. After the refresher course, I made it a point to practice every chance I got. Then that was it, the start of my driving career!
In a nutshell, I feel beyond happy that I can finally drive. So one piece of advice: don’t ever give up! If you want something, you’ll eventually have it as long as you do everything in your power to get it. 🙂
