Reorganized My Study
Submitted by: HB
British Columbia, Canada35 year old over-educated and overly-curious student filling in the pieces of a great life using The Secret.
I have failed a lot of classes. It seems I had a lot of excuses not to study. For some reason I started affirming and visualizing what I want before I go to bed- this means looking at tomorrow’s schedule, and having “study” items there, and having it in my thoughts that I will be studying the next morning. It worked for work days too- I wanted to bounce out of bed happy to go to work so I thought about “looking forward to waking up for work” before going to bed, and it worked very well.
Now that I’ve seen The Secret of course it makes sense to also feel it and be grateful for good results. In my studies of cognition, the brain likes consistency. Even a slightly positive result gets a “yahoo!” from me. For the studying which requires concentration for several hours per day, I tell myself throughout the day and especially before bed, “I will get a certain number of pages done today and tomorrow, well in time for my next test”. And I add, “It feels great to talk intelligently about this material with professionals in my field…” and so on. The feeling and knowing and being grateful, feel a bit less natural and I’m getting used to those parts of the plan.
Amazingly, now I even look forward (excitedly!) to the math portions of my schoolwork, because I know I’ll master it. That’s really amazing given the same amount of time and effort, but the higher degree of learning is coming my way just by planning for it. People say “It’s clear I am driven by success” and other common phrases. No it’s much more sustainable than that, as you know from The Secret!
