In October 2008 I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a lump on my bottom which I dismissed as something unimportant that would just go away eventually, however, when the lump continued to grow I realized I needed to have it looked at by a doctor.

After being seen by my regular physician, I was referred to a radiation specialist. He informed me that he lump was in fact a tumour and immediately arranged an appointment for me to have a PET scan, which is basically a CT scan that shows any cancer cells in the body.

The scan showed that I had numerous cancer cells in both my pelvic and abdominal areas, and the tumour, which by this time had grown to 3″ in length turned out to be cancerous, as well.
As you can imagine, I was really scared. I’ll never forget the day I went back to that radiation doctor for the scan results – he basically told me I was probably going to die and he gave me 6 months to a year!!! How depressing that was, and all the way home I kept thinking about how everyone around me was going to live a full life and I was going to die.

The first couple of days after I got the news I was very sad and extremely depressed. Then something happened. I told myself, “There’s absolutely no way you’re going to die, you haven’t finished living yet and you have your kids and grandkids to enjoy and to watch grow up.” And who was this person to tell me that I was going to die anyway? I remembered how it says in The Secret that your thoughts and feelings determine your actions, also being grateful for what you have. I started thanking God for my healing, over and over again, all day long and as I lay my head on my pillow at night, the first thing I did was thank Him for my healing. I truly believed I’d been healed! I began looking forward to all the things I was going to do in my life, playing with my grandkids, spending the holidays with the family, picnics and camping. I became happier with myself and my life.

Within a couple of months after that devastating news, I began radiation and chemotherapy treatments. After 3 weeks of treatments (and continually thanking God for my healing) I had a 2nd PET scan. The results were astounding – there were 75% less cancer cells and they were extremely smaller than before!! The doctors were amazed. 2 more weeks of treatments and the cancer cells had completely vanished!! I was cancer-free!

Being thankful for our lives and everything we’ve been given is, I believe the most important step in receiving the results we want. Because if we’re thankful for what we have, we already believe we have it!
