Wishes Coming True.

As a child I was very reserved in school. I would study but was never the kind who got attention, unlike the top performers of my class. I also did not have any extra curricular interests to boast about. My school had a students’ council that was comprised of students elected from the 7th grade as members. They would proceed to represent each house and were given a special badge. I used to be so fascinated when the senior council members would walk around with those badges. I secretly wished to have that badge, so much so that in 5th grade I once took a paper to write about myself and I ended up writing in it that it was my dream to be the vice captain in the 7th grade. I preserved that all the while.
So the 7th grade arrived and the teachers were making a list of students who were to first give a speech in front of all the teachers in the staff room. Then they would shortlist 6 students for each house and the 6 would go on to make a speech in front of students of all grades who would vote later. The 2 people with the majority of the votes would be elected.
Based on my grades I was selected to speak in front of the staff. I really don’t remember what I said there in a room full of teachers but I later figured out that I was shortlisted in the final 6. Even before the results were declared I had people coming up to me and congratulating me saying that I was gonna make it. And guess what happened the next day?!
I was elected and the badge was handed over to me. This was unbelievable for someone who barely interacted with anyone in school. I still don’t know what I said or how I said it but that victory landed in my arms. I just know I wished for it with all my heart.
Today, almost 15 years later I stumbled upon The Secret and I couldn’t help thinking about this after reading it. Thank you for reminding me that wishes do come true!
