We get what we wish for
Submitted by: Elizabeth L.
Portugal“The Secret” was given to me as a Christmas gift (2007). Before I read the book , I spent years reading many books, all related to spiritual life. I’ve always been curious and needed to understand myself, the other, and life. All the information I got helped me, but it also confused me. Last year, I lost my faith in almost everything because I was very confused – the only faith I kept was that there was a God. I started to realise that life is what we think, but I didn’t know what to do with that, it was only an intuition, because everything I wanted I got it. The only problem was that I never knew what I wanted, for sure.
My story isn’t so great like the others, but I want to share it as an example of how our thoughts affect our life.
I am a teacher, and being a teacher in Portugal is not easy. It’s not easy to get a job, or if you get it, it’s usually far away from home, etc.
Every year I apply and I always get a job because I always believe in it. I’m always far away from my home though, because I never believed or I didn’t what to get a job near.
Until this year…
I applied to cities I never applied before because I was afraid of not getting a job. But like always, I have to wait one or two months to get a job. This year was different, I was so bored, and stressed, I wanted to be useful and get away from my family because they were all stressed by their own problems, which affected me. So I kept saying to myself: “I have a job where I feel useful” (I always use the present tense, because I read a book which explained that it was important to use the present when we wish something). I also begged for patience, and “not” to get the first year of primary school (it was one of my greatest fears).
And BINGO! Two weeks and I got a job, in a place I hated, and I have the first year of primary school, which requires a lot of patience because I’m not used to this level of education.
I asked for something, but I forgot the details and my fear came true. Of course, I was glad because now I was learning to be patient.
When I came home for Christmas I was exhausted and very stressed, until I received the book and started to read it.
I am more relaxed now because I have hope again, and faith, and I tell myself every day, “I feel good everywhere and in every situation”. I choose to feel good in order to use the Secret to help me and the others, my family and my students. Feeling good is very important for me because I was very sarcastic, stressed, and sad.
My intuition, of life being what people think of it, is true. All these years I used it without knowing. I am so grateful. It’s a blessing and I feel very grateful for this blessing.
