Queretaro, MexicoI am a 33 year-old widow with two pre-teenage children. I am a translator and English teacher in my country.
Well, my story is actually not mine, but my children’s. I believe that children are innocent, and sometimes they apply The Secret in their lives without even know it, because of their unwavering faith.
A year ago, because of my job, I used to get 2 weeks off at work without pay, so Christmas was always rough instead of being the best time of the year for us. My 11 year-old cousin got an iPod for Christmas, while my daughter got a Barbie doll. My daughter first got all angry and cried for a while, but then she just started saying: “This next Christmas, make sure the iPod you get for me is blue”, and I just never really gave a lot of importance to what she said. At the same time, my son started buying video game magazines, and he was always saying: “On Christmas, when I get my XBOX, I will get this game”. Many times I told them: “Stop getting so excited about these things, I don’t have a job right now, and our future is uncertain, so, if you get all excited, whenever you don’t get it, then you will be disappointed”, knowing that these things are extremely expensive here in Mexico. Yet, they didn’t listen to me, and they kept thinking about their things like as if they already had them.
I got a temporary job in June at a very important company. I was going to stay only for a three month period, but they ended up extending my contract for another three months. Since I was going to still be there in December, that meant that I was entitled to the Christmas big bonus that this company offers to its employees. My boss was an American lady who was constantly coming and going to the United States. Before one of her visits, she called me and asked me if I wanted anything special from the States… the idea just popped up in my head, and I told her: “Hey, check for the price of an Xbox and an Ipod… if both are below 500 dollars, get them and I will pay you whenever you get back.”
Long story short, my son got his video game, and my daughter her blue iPod this Christmas! I hadn’t watched or read The Secret yet. Two weeks later, my contract was due, and I found myself without a job again. I was starting to get desperate, when my son told me: “Hey mom, I got 25 dollars from my aunt for Christmas, and I bought you this video.” My baby got The Secret for me. The first time I watched it, I realized my children got their Christmas presents because they always acted like they already had them, and because they never lost the faith. I didn’t have a job or the money to buy their stuff, and the Universe arranged itself in order for them to get their desires! I still don’t have a job, but I have learned a lot from The Secret, and I am using it now! I feel happier, and I am full of faith.
This will not be the last story I write … you’ll see.
