The last couple of years I had been struggling to find motivation and feel passionate about work. It got to the point where my negativity towards my job was consuming me and showing up everywhere.

In general, I’m more of an optimist and positive person but I could barely recognize myself lately. I was in a bad mood at work, with my husband, my daughter, even my dog! I was letting my focus on disliking my job rule my whole life.

A few weeks ago I decided to take back my life and turn things around. I needed to get out of the rut. In the midst of doing so, I was looking for inspiration around me. That’s when I remembered that somebody had recommended this book called “The Secret” years ago. I looked it up on Netflix and watched it with my husband. It was almost as if somebody was waking up my soul. By the end of the movie, I felt so empowered and happy, I could barely contain myself.

I decided to take the audio book out of the library and listen to it in the car since I was doing a lot of traveling with work. I would listen to the CD on my way to work and then on my way home, EVERYDAY! I did this for about two weeks. And every day I heard a little extra piece of information in the message from Rhonda Byrne.

I was smiling at work, only speaking and feeling positive things. I was happy to go to work again even though absolutely nothing had changed at my job!

Two years ago, I had been offered a promotion that never came about, which was part of my frustration. Also, annual raises were coming about in April. I wasn’t expecting much of a raise (the average raise given out this year was in the range of 1.5% to 2%) and I certainly wasn’t expecting that long lost promotion. All I wanted was to be happy and comfortable at work.

Well, my boss called me to his office last week to let me know of my raise. He went on to tell me how much he appreciated my hard work, and because of that I was getting a 3.5% raise! I didn’t even ask for one and now I was getting a raise far above what the average was!

On top of that, he wanted to let me know that my promotion went through. It was the only one out of seven he had submitted for. Apparently, there was a glitch in the system and only mine went through, while they were still waiting to be able to process the rest!!!

All I did was be grateful for the job I have, which has allowed me to do all the things I’ve always wanted to do. And even though it is not my dream job, I still went out of my way to make it a good day every day.

Now I’m on to other things on my list (like landing my dream job!).
