Prayers, peace and positivity. I want to start this off by saying thank you to everyone reading this post or who has had any part in contributing to this amazing testimonial page. Thank you for everyone in the world adding to this positive energy that we can be one with. I also want to express gratitude for all I’ve been through so far, because it has all brought me to right here. I’m 21. The first time I encountered The Secret was on Netflix. My roommate sat me down and we had this thought-provoking and dense conversation, whereafter we stayed 3 more hours and watched The Secret and talked about it. I’ve seen it in action, but took a very, very, very lazy approach to it. Fast forward a year and a half, and here I am.
As of recent, I’ve made the move from California to Florida. The past two months, I’d been traveling and experiencing amazing things! My best friend, Tj, flew me out to Boulder, CO for 4 days, just to hangout. Two weeks later, I’m in Texas, with a girl who I’ve known for about 5 years but haven’t seen in 4.
The first night, we go to a bar just to play pool and mingle with some new friends. After a few hours, I realize I have a missed call and see it’s from my mom. She doesn’t pick up, so I call my dad.
“Hello….Oh, did your mom tell you?”
“No, what?”
“My mother passed away.”
Six years of Alzheimer’s had finally taken its toll on my grandma Ada.
My friend who I was staying with in Texas couldn’t have been a better best friend at the time. “No, I’m buying your flight. You have to be with your family.”
About $600 later, I’m on a flight to Florida from Texas, where I had just cut a trip short by 9 days. This next series of events is something I can’t and will probably never be able to explain. On my connecting flight, I sat across from a man, who, over the course of 4 drinks in a 1 hr 15 min flight, I got to know very well and came to find that we were in the same Fraternity, he had 4 amazing children around the same age as my brothers and me and he loved to travel, among many other awesome things. After the flight, “Landon, can I see your phone?”
“Sure, here you go.”
“I know you’re still in college, but give me a call after you graduate.”
What?!!! Words can’t explain the amount of gratitude and excitement that came over me after hearing this. So I’m in the Houston airport, waiting 3 hours for my flight. I thank Ken for those 4 drinks. So eventually the waiting area before the gate fills up, so I go stand in the boarding group line, waiting for the previous 2 groups to go. An older couple get behind me in line, and over the next 45 minutes, we’re talking like we’re best friends. Or, or rather I’m their long lost grandson they never met. They’re both white, and I’m a dark, California tan, Samoan-Puerto Rican. We board the flight together and sit in our seats.
“Hey, you have a safe trip now. See you when we get there!”
“Thanks, Phil! You too!”
The flight lands, and I clap. I’m just happy to be in Florida, and being Puerto Rican, I was always taught “it’s what we do”. Haha, what a funny concept. But I like it! So I’m in row 5. I get off quickly, and thankfully my bags were grabbed and checked in the “Bag Valet” before I stepped foot on the plane; they’re right there waiting for me as I get in the tunnel off the plane. I get to the gate and decide to wait for Phil and Judy. I see Phil’s hat and start flailing my arms. He and Judy see me and start jumping up and down. They run to me we hug like we’re family. We continue to talk as we walk outside to our rides. As we’re walking, Judy starts talking about Colorado, where they live. They’re in Florida to travel and vacation. I bring up that I was just there visiting Tj, and Judy replies.
“You know, Landon, if you’re ever in Colorado, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We’d love to host you.”
If you knew the series of emotions I’d been through the last 3 days, you’d understand why I started bawling at this moment. Two complete strangers, and here I am crying my eyes out in front of them; while they hold me and make sure I’m okay. That’s love. I’m so thankful for Phil and Judy.
The first 2 weeks I’m in Florida, the Law of Attraction seemed to keep pulling at me. Whether it was a commercial, or a fee words that stuck out in a 3 hours conversation, or whatever. It kept calling me, so I had no choice. I put on The Secret. My cousin goes, “What’s this?” A month in Florida and now my cousin and I talk about the Law of Attraction almost daily. We’re growing closer together and I’m so proud of her.
So fast forward to two days ago, May 27. I’ve decided to stay in Florida for at least a year. I only have one grandparent left. I’m going to use as much time as I possibly can to spend with and learn from my grandfather. My grandpa and I drive about 40 minutes to go visit some family. I’m hanging out with one of my cousin/uncles outside at night and we’re having a drink. I look up at the stars and say “Wow, even with all the streetlights, you can still see the stars out in the sky tonight. I’ve never seen the stars from this part of the world. Florida. I wish the lights were off.”
We keep bullshitting and joking around, and 10 minutes go by. All of a sudden, boom. The bright streetlights across the street, and the first thing my uncle Robert says to me is, “Look, your wish came true!”.
I looked up to the sky. The next hour, I downloaded a Stars app, and we learned about all the constellations above his house: Ursa Minor, Ursa Major, Scorpius, Aries, Libra, Pisces, it goes on! Dark blue peppered with gold and yellow spread perfectly about the night sky. I took a deep breath, and that’s when it all started to make sense to me. Trust in the stars.
