The wish during assembly time
Before my best friend introduced me to The Secret, my life was always meaningless and sad. Since I was a kid I believed that none of my friends liked me and I felt that all the boys thought that I was a nerdish hot-tempered girl, and that every single action would bring chaos and trouble to everyone. I was always alone. I only smile just to prevent others from giving me fake sympathy that I believed in. I never knew that such negative thoughts would actually attract worse things to happen in my life so much.
Every Monday morning during assembly time there will be a moment of silence where not a single soul does anything else but stand straight with their eyes closed. At that time I never really knew why we had to do that, but I followed the crowd, and made a wish every time I closed my eyes.
Later in my life, primary school ended and I proceeded to secondary school. It was the first day of school when I met my best friend, Inez. We have been best friends for close to three years since then and I’m thankful I’ve met her, but other than that, my dull life went on, and I admired Inez’s life a lot – she’s really beautiful, friendly, playful yet mature, and is a living man-magnet. She always gets what she wants without putting in any effort at all.
For some time, I was jealous of her and felt that I was extremely weak, but I never mentioned to her how I felt.
One breezy morning, Inez said to me: “Believing is the key to everything.” I was a bit surprised that she said something like that so suddenly, but I asked her: “Why do you say that?” She just shrugged and said: “Just something I picked up from a film I watched.” Then, she handed me a disc and told me to watch it.
When I got back home from school I quickly put on the disc as I was curious to know what the film was about. Then I slowly understood The Secret, and I got a big shock when I was halfway through the film. I wanted to buy the book at the age of eleven, the same year the book was published. At that time I couldn’t buy the book because I didn’t have enough money, and just wished that some day I could know what the contents are.
Now I understand what The Secret is. I am so excited that I found a way to change my life. The next day, my mind was filled with The Secret so much that I didn’t realise I was getting along with everybody – I was confident with everything, I laughed and fooled around with my classmates who didnt really seem surprised with my sudden change of attitude. When I got back home, I thanked for everything I had, and thanked the universe for giving me a wonderful day. I had a fluttery feeling that I never experienced before It was then I realised something so shocking that tears started streaming out of my eyes. The same wish that I made eight years ago had came true
I always closed my eyes and whispered:
“I want to truly feel happy.”
