The Truth in The Secret
Submitted by: Paula Shimel
Phoenix, AZI am 46 years old and an Arizona native. I have two children who are both married. I live with my cats in the most wonderful apartment I've ever had.
My story is long…there are several facets to it. Much has happened since my first time watching The Secret. I’ll try to start from the beginning.
My most recent employer never held back a weeks pay when I started working there, and in January when they switched to an outside payroll company, they decided they were going to withhold a weeks’ pay from everyone’s paychecks on the 16th of February. Knowing I could not afford to lose one week’s pay, I took 3 vacation days and during those three days, planned to build a new website for a previous employer. I would be compensated for my vacation days and would be earning the wages I would lose on my next paycheck. The “vacation” started on February 8th. I called my mom after work that day and she told me to turn on Oprah. They were talking about The Secret. I went online that night and watched the movie from my computer. That was a Thursday night.
That Friday, and the following Monday & Tuesday, I built the website for my former employer. I actually had five days (because of the weekend) to be away from the negativity at my job and focus on the message of The Secret. Everything I did over those five days was filled with a sense of freedom and happiness. I was grateful and thankful for so many things that normally went unnoticed. I plastered images on my office wall of things I would have in my life and imagined having them. Over those five days, I realized I needed to work for myself and be free of the negativity at my current workplace. By the 4th day, my previous employer suggested my leaving the current job and starting my own business, doing what I do best and he offered to help me financially. When I received the check for the website, he gave me a $2.00 an hour raise. When I went back to work, I gave my notice…1-1/2 months notice, because they asked for extra time to find my replacement. When payday rolled around on the 16th, my paycheck was $300.00 more than I expected. The Secret was working…I had taped an image of a pile of money to my home office wall.
On the 21st of February, I received an auto loan application in the mail. I wasn’t necessarily in the market for a new car, but I’d driven a loaner I really liked while my car was in the shop some months earlier. After watching The Secret, I’d added the image of the auto to my wall. I applied for the loan and was approved! I started shopping online that night and making calls the next day. I found my vehicle and ended up paying about $3,000 less for it than I should have. My father was in the auto business, so I know a little about dealing with car sales people. I ended up financing through Chrysler and got a better finance rate than the original loan I’d filed for online! And no downpayment. I then put my car up for sale and ended up selling it for just $100.00 under the asking price. I paid off ALL of my credit cards with the proceeds of my car sale. I was also able to buy some office equipment I needed for my new business.
Every time I share The Secret’s information with someone, things come to me; Last Friday night, I told a friend about it and on Saturday, I received a $114.00 dividend check from my auto insurance company. I didn’t even realize they sent those out!
There are many other positive things that have occurred since my watching The Secret, but I will perhaps share them in another story at another time. This one was intended primarily for finances.
