On November 9th 2010, I suffered a TIA (mini stroke) at work. My 60th birthday had been just two months before and I felt fit and healthy so it was like a bolt from the blue and very alarming. I felt very weak and downhearted for a few weeks after, and so anxious that it would happen again (but maybe worse next time), and feeling that I was now going to be an invalid when I had felt that I had so much of life ahead of me. I had to make the decision to cut down on my working days at the busy Tourist Office where I work as it can be so stressful and I knew it was not doing me any good, which would mean halving my income – quite worrying when we do not have a lot of money to manage on – but I knew that my health was more important.

I tried to keep the news from my daughter as we live 90 miles apart and as I know she worries about me I wanted to protect her, but one day on the phone I found myself pouring out my fears to her. She paused a minute and then said “Mum, I am going to send you a DVD – it’s called ‘The Secret’, and I think it will help you.” She is not well off and I was concerned about her spending the money on me, but two days later the DVD arrived – bless her. I love her and feel so grateful to her for what she did as it has changed my life.

She had not told me anything about the film but I was intrigued and took myself off to my bedroom to watch it the same afternoon. It is true to say that I was riveted from the start and by the time it finished I was in tears – it had affected me so much. I rushed down and told my husband how amazing I had found it, and to my joy when we watched the film together the next day he was as blown away as I was (but without the tears…!).

Since that day I have watched it a few more times and have also bought both ‘The Power’ and ‘The Secret’ books, both of which I read in twenty four hours. The things I have read and seen just seem to resonate with me and I have been feeling so much more positive and happy about everything in my life since then.

Now I just want to share with you what happened at work on December 23rd six weeks after my TIA to confirm to me that The Secret really does work. A few days before, the thought had come into my head that I was going to get £100 bonus from work before Christmas. We don’t usually get a bonus as such – in fact last year we had a £20 voucher which we had to pay tax on (!) but somehow I just felt that this year I would. As I walked to work, I became more and more convinced that I would get this bonus, and when I went in I saw on the Manager’s desk a folder of cheques waiting to be signed. I just knew my bonus was in there, and when I checked my payslip – it was!

But it gets better – please read on….. Because I was so thrilled I made the decision to really try give the ‘The Love’ to all the customers that day, as the Power book suggests, and I have to say I really enjoyed doing it and felt so good. One lady even said she wanted to lean over the counter and give me a kiss for the help I had given her, and then the next man I helped actually came back with a bunch of yellow roses for me to thank me for what I had done! Flushed with success, I then kept saying to myself “Someone is going to bring me in a bottle of wine this afternoon”, and – yes, you’ve guessed, they did!

Quite apart from all this, the more I read the books and watch the film the more I feel so happy and calm inside. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the change it has brought to my every day life and I know things are going to get even better.
