The Most Beautiful Present: My Daughter.
Submitted by: Valerie V.
BelgiumI am 33 years old, married and i have a beautiful daughter.
My husband and I had been trying to have children for a year, and we eventually decided to opt for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). We had all the necessary qualifications required, and everything seemed perfect, but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. We made another attempt last year, but it was still unsuccessful. Despite having everything else I could ask for in our lives, including a loving spouse, a great job, a beautiful house, two adorable cats, hobbies, and friends, I felt disappointed and discouraged. I even tried following the teachings of The Secret, hoping it would yield a positive result, but it didn’t.
To take our minds off the situation, we took a much needed vacation to the Dominican Republic. During our trip, we made a stop at a school for Haitian children, and we had a great time with them. The experience was heartwarming and unforgettable, and it made me realize how grateful I was for everything we had back at home. I also came to understand that our children would have better chances in life, and I would do everything in my power to ensure their happiness.
As the months rolled by, we decided that if we were not pregnant by July, we would adopt a child from Haiti. Although I still smiled whenever I saw a baby and was happy for new parents, there were only two embryos left in the freezer at our hospital, and I decided to take a chance on them. I did not want to think negatively but instead, chose to enjoy life in every aspect like any other couple. Unfortunately, one of the embryos did not survive the defrost process, and I lost some blood. But my husband kept believing, and eventually, I did too.
And then came the biggest news of my life – I was pregnant! Since January 22nd, we have a healthy little girl who never stops smiling. The joy that she has brought into our lives cannot be put into words. Even on bad days, her smile reminds me of all the things we have to be grateful for, and we do everything we can to keep her happy. We are so grateful for her, and we are reminded every day of how precious life is.
