The little lion in the bag
Submitted by: Jennifer
Denver, COI'm a working single mother to an elementary school aged boy, struggling with all of the day to day things we all struggle with. Some days it feels like I'm literally dodging bullets though, and that's when I saw Oprah talking about "The Secret", and so far, it's had a profound effect. Starting small, but you know there are definitely bigger things in store for us now!
I just finished reading The Secret about two weeks ago. I saw it discussed on Oprah and thought it sounded like a fascinatingly simple strategy to a happier life. I began practicing right away, on the little things, and have been consistently and instantly amazed.
I’m a single working mother, and mornings can be hectic at best. I used to be prone to panicking about being late, stressed about not having everything together. But now I say, “I have more than enough time, I have more than enough patience. Everything is running smoothly, everything is going my way.” After just one day, I found breakfast was made and eaten, our lunches were packed, homework and handbags were set to go, clothes and shoes were on, and teeth were brushed, and we still had 15 minutes to spare! This just doesn’t happen around here!!!
After dropping my son at school, I need to make a left hand turn without a traffic light onto a busy street. I’m used to waiting many minutes at a time to get in, but now it’s been clear sailing nearly every day!
Then my son had to do state mandated school testing, and so I thought to try and focus some Secret energy toward him, that he would take his time, be thoughtful, and do well. I said “Good things come to my son, he is bright and will let everyone see it, good things will happen for him, he is going to do well.” We won’t receive the official results until next year, but his teacher said he did very well.
And get this: He lost his favorite stuffed animal over a year and a half ago, a retired collectible type lion he named Simba. We have looked and looked to no avail. He would forget about it, but when he remembered, would be very distraught over the loss. Simba was very special. On the weekend after the testing, since he’d done well with it, I allowed him to have a friend sleep over. The boys were horsing around with their sleeping bags, and don’t you know, Simba came flying out of my son’s bag! He’s used that sleeping bag at least a few dozen times and I’ve folded it for him after many of those uses. Neither of us ever felt the little lion in the bag, yet there he was!
I know these are little things… but sometimes, that’s all it takes to create a big change… the little things. There’s no doubt in my mind that practicing The Secret has brought about an immense change in my life, with many more to come. Now I’m on to my visualization board and even bigger and brighter things! Thank you so much, I love you,
