The Body Mind Connection.
I bought The Secret the day it came out. Each time I watch it I hear something relevant to a current situation happening in my life. This week I was inspired by reading Catherine’s story “Never Give Up on Yourself” and reminding me to ask, believe and receive.
About 4 years ago I was watching a news story about the high suicide rate for returning Veterans who have lost arms from bomb blasts. I knew right away I could teach them a massage method called Fijian Barefoot Massage. It is performed with the client on a mat and you actually use your feet instead of your hands to do the massage. While I was learning this massage, I felt the rewiring happening in my brain from my hands to my feet as I was doing the massage. After several months of practice my feet became as sensitive as my hands. I believe the brains of these vets can rewire and give them the ability to touch family and friends in a caring and loving way again. The need for human touch is basic to human beings, physically and mentally. It’s loss is a body/mind disconnection.
I have written emails to organizations helping vets, motivational speakers with outreach programs and even a presidential candidate. I’m sure they can’t imagine how such a simple idea could have such a positive affect on the body/mind connection. I was discouraged after each email I wrote. I received only a “Thank you for your concern” or no reply at all. Lately I’ve let it go, thinking no one is going to listen to a Massage Therapist without connections to a hospital or research foundation, with an out-of-the-box rehab therapy idea.
However, now I’m going to start a vision board while I watch The Secret and continue to imagine myself working at my new job teaching War Veterans Fijian Barefoot Massage.
Thank you, Catherine and The Secret.
