My husband lost his job unexpectedly in early 2010 leaving us with half our normal income. As you can imagine our standard of living took a nosedive. With the economy in recession there were no jobs to be had so my husband decided to just retire.

Adjusting to a one income budget was hard. We had to curtail our spending dramatically to be sure we had enough to pay the monthly bills. We had plans to remodel our older home but we worried about draining our bank account to do it. I worried about being able to save enough money for retirement. It was a very stressful time.

Later that year I learned about The Secret from a friend. I listened to the audiobook and watched the DVD. I wrote a check from the Universe for my salary $25,000, the cost of a new kitchen. I had no idea where the extra money would come from but I believed it was mine and acted as if it were mine. We went ahead and spent the money to remodel the kitchen.

That year the company I work for did well and paid out a large end-of-year bonus to it’s employees. I also received a large raise. I had earned $2,000 MORE than what I wrote the check for. Imagine my excitement when I saw my total income on my tax statement!

The following year I wrote a check for my salary $50,000. Again, I had no idea where the extra money would come from, but I tried my best to keep doubt out of my mind. Every day I expressed gratitude to the Universe for the money I KNEW was mine.

Miraculously I received an email just a month later informing me that stock options I didn’t even know I had were being exercised and paid out. It was a small fortune! Imagine my astonishment when I looked at my tax statement and again my income totalled almost exactly what I’d written the check for.

This year I’ve written a check for my salary $75,000. I’m already planning a great vacation in Europe and the purchase of a new car for my wonderful husband who has also become a Secret believer.
