I remember waking up one cold day in December 2013 and thinking to myself, there has to be more to life than what’s currently in front of me. At the time, my wife was working full time at the post office and I was, and am, a full-time musician and military vet. We have two children, girls, 3 and 13 and we all lived in a 3 bedroom apartment in a pretty good neighborhood.

I remember looking around my apartment, staring out of the window and thinking, there’s something else out there. I had this very strong feeling that life is much easier than it appears at the present moment. I have no idea what it was but it felt like a higher power was calling me.

In early January 2014, my band played a private show near Madison WI where I met a young lady. The following week, she sent a text with a link, telling me to watch this video. She told me this video would answer a lot of my questions and that it would explain what I’ve been feeling lately. It was The Secret. After I watched the video, I immediately shared it with my wife and we began to exercise it’s teachings that day and every day after.

Mid-January, my wife lost her job at the post office due to an injury. Two weeks later, the post office called and asked if she wanted her job back. I told her to only do what makes her happy and so she refused the job and became a stay-at-home mom. By April, we had gotten so far behind on our bills that we had to vacate our apartment, via eviction. We didn’t have money to put our goods in storage so we left an entire 3 bedroom apartment fully furnished! We just took whatever clothes we could fit in our jeep, packed up our then, 2-year-old daughter and left. While pulling out from the alley-way of the apartment with tears in our eyes, we saw the back of a truck that read, “Your Fortune Awaits”. My wife and I looked at each other and just smiled through the tears.

I moved my family and our few belongings into my band practice space, which is part of the basement of a larger building that I had been renting for the last 3 years. It was rough because everyone was telling us we were crazy and that we both needed to get ‘jobs’. They were also telling us we need to get our own place. The problem with that was that we had gotten an eviction so we were told by numerous apartments that no one would rent to us for a few years. We still knew that the Universe was working on our behalf and we had faith that it would make a way.

My band practice space also had two tenants that lived above on the second floor. One of the tenants was the owner of the entire building and he also has his construction shop on the first floor.

One day I saw one of the tenants moving out. I also saw the landlord and asked him if the place was available for rent. I was concerned that he might not rent to me because he knew I was evicted from my apartment. However, he told me it was available and he would love to have me as a neighbor since I was already renting studio space from him.

When he told me the price of the unit, I said, sheesh! It was far more than I thought I could afford, then I immediately changed my thoughts. The Universe will make a way!

Over the next week phone calls came in for my band to perform and I was taking large deposits. I took in enough to cover rent for three months, plus the security deposit!

To make a long story a little shorter, I gathered the money and we moved in with no credit check. This place was far better, bigger, and more luxurious than any place we had ever lived in! Plus, he offered to sell the place as a condo when I was able to get financing. Since I had been in the military, this was a perfect opportunity to use my housing allowance!

Then the apartment owner of the place we were evicted from, had packed up and stored all of our belongings free of charge! Can you believe it? The apartment that we owed months of rent to, packed all of our things and had them in storage the entire time! They kept everything for us to retrieve the moment we got back on our feet. Wow!!!

Now our family members come over to hang out at our place and their jaws just dropped at first sight. It’s the biggest, nicest place that anyone in our family has ever had and we’re truly grateful every day to live here! We didn’t have to get ‘jobs’. We just had to stay the course and let the Universe do its job.
