Stay Positive :)

Auckland, New Zealand22 year old social worker. Life is good.
Hey everyone. So I thought I’d write in and share my story, as I constantly read other people’s for inspiration and motivation, and I thought maybe I could be that to someone else.
I have always been a positive person. I am lucky, and I have had an amazing life. I was brought up by wonderful parents, have a lovely sister, and was always very close to my grandparents. We had a nice house, I went to a nice school (obviously we all went through the dramas of the teenage years), and I lived in a nice area. I was encouraged to believe I could achieve anything I wanted, and I did; I got good A-levels and went to university and got a degree in Social Work, had a great group of friends, a good social life, a good job, went on holidays (lived in Australia for three months between semesters – I did this twice!), etc.
I believe part of what led me to accomplish this was both the positivity shown to me by my parents, and also that I have always been encouraged to help people and assist others. I always give to charity, I will buy a homeless person a sandwich and a coffee if they look cold and hungry, I volunteer, I will help out whoever I can, and man does it all pay off.
I decided after graduating that I wanted to see the world. I had fallen in love with Australia on my visits and was drawn to it. Of course everything fell into place money wise and I was able to go – my bonus bonds expired, I got a temp job for a few months, and sadly my Grandad passed away, but he left me some money as well – also it was my 21st birthday. So off I went.
I was living the dream in Byron Bay and someone gave me this book, The Secret – I read it and realised I had been applying it in life anyway!
Since I found out about The Secret, I wrote a list of what I wanted to do in life one day when i was bored. It included travelling to NZ on holiday, visiting Adelaide and going to the Fringe festival, living in Byron Bay again, going to Perth, working on a cattle station, and getting my second year visa for Australia and then traveling South East Asia – Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. AND I DID IT ALL 😀 Not only that, I met a gorgeous boy when I was away, and now I’m living in NZ with him and applying for residency.
I am now working as a Social Worker in Auckland (I was so positive about having a job I got three interviews in the same day – I knew which one I wanted, so I wrote a fake job offer letter and then I got it!!). We are renting a gorgeous two bedroom house in a waterfront suburb, we go away for weekends, I’m learning to surf. Life is really good.
I am writing this partly to show my gratitude to life, as I forgot for a while, when I was getting homesick and low on money. I switched my attitude and stopped worrying about everything, especially money, and then got an email from the place I used to work in Australia saying they had received a cheque for me and where should they send it!!
I am a true believer in positive thinking – me and my boyfriend are now writing a to-do list together. We are thinking of traveling around South America, traveling round Europe, going to visit my family in England for a few months, moving out of Auckland to a beachy area, and buying an old house, doing it up and selling it. My ultimate dream is to own and build from scratch an older persons day centre and retirement village that is affordable for everyone, and I know that I will do it one day!
I have soooo many other little examples of how The Secret has worked for me, and I hope even just one person is inspired by my story like I am by other people’s. You can achieve anything you want, stay happy, be nice to others, give as much as you receive, and the world is yours for the taking. 🙂 I was lucky, I admit, to have parents who thought this way themselves, and so was given a good kick start, but all of what I have accomplished I did off my own back.
Sorry for the essay!!
