Quit Smoking Or Start Breathing?!
In 2010 I saw a trailer for the movie The Secret and I was intrigued from the get-go. After watching the movie I had a sense that I had been shown something truly amazing and yet, if I did not learn to work with this secret then I would not realize its potential. All I can say is that I have seen time and again that The Secret works, but I will tell you now of one of the biggest breakthroughs I’ve had as a result of knowing The Secret.
I had been a smoker from my early teen years. I smoked for 24 years without ever being able to quit, or so I believed! When I learned The Secret I asked myself “Could I use the law of attraction to quit smoking?” Then it hit me; I was using The Secret already to make myself an addict! I would repeat phrases daily such as “I wish I could quit. I just can’t” or “I’m addicted to these darn things”. Once I realized that I had been asserting helplessness and addiction, I wondered, “Can I turn this around?” and I took a look at the words I would say about smoking. I always said “I wish I could quit smoking” but the problem with that was that it didn’t matter whether I said start or stop smoking, the focus was on smoking so I would get more what??? Smoking!!!
So I began to use the affirmation “I am an oxygen breather.” I would say that phrase every time I thought about smoking. I began to breathe oxygen in through my nose and out through my mouth. This rhythmical breathing mimicked the rhythmical pattern of breathing I would do when I was smoking. It eased my tension and calmed my anxiety. I decided “I am going to start breathing oxygen” and as a result of affirming that I am an oxygen breather, I am today smoke-free and have been for a year and a half!
