My Sister’s “Secret”.
Submitted by: Monica F
Bluffton, SCI am the middle sister of three sisters.
I come from a family that knows how to laugh and have fun. But we have learned this through trials. My parents divorced in the mid 60’s and we spent time growing up with a different family from our friends. Life was not easy but both parents seemed to have a positive attitude.
What we didn’t know was that our father was teaching us The Secret. When circumstances seemed to be going in the wrong direction he would say “Nothing is good or bad, only your thinking makes it so.”
But recently my little was sister reminded of the power in The Secret.
Shortly after The Secret was produced on CD my oldest sister shared it with both myself and my younger sister, Susan. For years we listened to The Secret which reinforced what we had learned as children. When we would have a bad day, bad week or bad news, we would call and talk to each other and start sharing our shifters that would put us back on track.
Eight years ago, Susan told us she had stage 4 breast cancer. To most people that would have been something too devastating to handle. But to Susan, she simply reached inward and pulled out “Her Secret”. She would simply say that the cancer was just a thing and it is going away. Many times she would sign her emails or texts with HHJJ, Happy Happy Joy Joy. She recovered from that round of cancer.
But here is how she reminded me of The Secret. This past June one of those dang cancer cells had taken sanctuary in her brain where chemo couldn’t go. So once again she used her Secret to believe that this cancer can be extinct and will not take sanctuary in her brain. Throughout her radiation and chemo she continued to have this amazing, positive attitude. The doctors and nurses were touched by her attitude of gratitude. How she was kind and how she cared for them as much as they were caring for her.
You may think that I am going to say that she beat the cancer again but I am not. She lost her battle to cancer. But “The Secret” story is that through her difficult times she not only used The Secret to be grateful for life, she shared the internal peace The Secret gives to those around you.
So my sister reminded me that The Secret may not produce the final outcome you are expecting, but the attitude you have in the trials is The Secret of life.
