My New Jeep
Submitted by: Bonnie S.
OhioA happily married mother of four who loves to play golf. I've been an RN for 21 years.
In 2004, after struggling to pay our bills when my husband’s job changed, we were forced to file Chapter 13 Bankruptcy. This was a devastating time for us, as we had always lived comfortably, if not frequently beyond our means. We agreed to pay back 100% of our debt, and as a result half of my pay went toward the case every payday. This left us living from paycheck to paycheck.
At the time I was leasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee. A year into the bankruptcy the lease was up, and I had to turn it in. This left me with no vehicle, but I did not want to incur any more debt, so we relied on my husband’s truck and my son’s very old car for transportation. I also rode home from work with my friend when we worked together, and she was always willing to give me a ride when I needed it. This was a very humbling experience for me. After all, I make good money, and I have a satisfying career.
About a year ago I discovered The Secret, when a friend loaned me a copy of her DVD. I watched it over and over, and shared it with my husband. I went out immediately and bought the book, and carried it with me all the time. I read and reread it every day. It just made so much sense!
In February 2008, I knew we were close to discharging our bankruptcy. I also knew I wanted another Jeep. I went to the Jeep site and built one, and then printed out my dream vehicle. I put it in my notebook, and I told everyone that I was getting a dark blue Grand Cherokee. I talked about it all the time, I dreamed of it, I envisioned myself driving it. I even planned what my payment would be. There was never any doubt about what I wanted.
Our bankruptcy was discharged in March 2008, and having full paychecks again was wonderful! About three weeks after our discharge I got a letter from a car dealer offering to help us rebuild our credit. I usually just throw those away, as we get at least a couple of those every day, but I opened it and read it. It was very to the point and gave a web address. I went to the web site just to look around and guess what was there? Yep, a dark blue Jeep Grand Cherokee! It was a one owner, low mileage lease turn in, and it had even more options than the one I had built on the web site. Not only that, it was half the price of a brand new one. Within an hour I was pre-approved for a low interest loan, and I had an appointment to go test drive the Jeep. Since I did all this on a Friday afternoon, and it was my weekend to work, I had to wait till Monday. Monday afternoon we test drove it, and found it was in mint condition. The best part is that even with adding on a four year warranty, the payment is under what I planned to pay.
Thanks to The Secret, and The Law of Attraction, my new Jeep is sitting in my garage now.
