My Hollywood Opportunity Happened When I Believed.
Submitted by: David Lynn Ross
TexasI’m a singer/songwriter/pianist/screenwriter with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
While I was shopping at a thrift store in Boulder, Colorado in 2014, I came upon The Secret video and purchased it out of curiosity. As I watched the video, my eyes were opened and I realized that I had been using the law of attraction and The Secret to manifest the things I wanted at the thrift store. I just did not have a name for it.
After that, I started using the law of attraction with intention and on purpose, and some amazing things happened. I had written my first screenplay and had been sending query letters to producers and agents. Time after time, I was told that they do not accept unsolicited material. So now I started applying the law of attraction to this problem of not getting access. I started imagining producers wanting to hear about my screenplay and I visualized that I was telling them the story.
Not long afterward, I saw a notice online that the Producers Guild of America was holding its annual conference in 2015 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood. They were asking screenwriters to submit a one page synopsis to pitch to a panel of three famous producers at the conference before an audience. I submitted my synopsis and to my astonishment, they emailed me back and said that I had been chosen as one of 3 speakers to pitch my idea to the producers.
I had been wanting to move back to Las Angeles so I decided to leave Colorado and move to Southern California. It was so exciting to be hobnobbing with producers and other screenwriters in the Green Room on the lot at Paramount Studios waiting to be called in front of the producers and the large audience. The event was filmed and live streamed on the internet.
When I was called to the podium, I began my pitch by introducing myself and explaining that the core of my story is revealed in the ancient Athenian hymn to Harrmodius and that I had composed the music for. The audience was surprised as I sang and Marshall Herskovitz complimented me on my voice. He liked the true story and thought it would make a good movie. But, he stopped short of buying the pitch. The moderator, PGA President Emeritus, Mark Gordon, then said that it only takes one person to say yes.
After the event, Brian Grazer caught up with me and gave his suggestion for a pitch. He also liked the idea. I was flabbergasted that my dream had come true. Today, people still remember my pitch as the first-ever singing pitch. All of this happened because The Secret helped me believe that it was possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
