My Dream Wedding.
Submitted by: Priyanka
USAA book lover and a budding writer. I have an awesome life and look forward to so much more!
My story is long, but I want to give hope to those who are broken hearted and have given up on love.
So here goes:
Every girl has a dream wedding planned in her head. So did I but I never believed that it was possible.
I was living in the US, studying, working and searching for “the one”. My parents had registered me on an Indian matrimonial website. I met countless guys but they did not work out. I made a list of the qualities I wanted in a guy several times and wondered if such a guy even existed. He was too perfect.
I believed in The Secret as I had manifested many other things, including the life that I was living at the moment. I even met three guys who were close to my list but it did not work out. In a year I had three breakups, I was devastated. I got a part time job in an Indian boutique in order to distract myself and keep myself occupied. It worked as I would look at the beautiful clothes and jewelry and imagine wearing them on my wedding. I would even try them on when there was no one around. Plus, I would go to a website like Maharani Weddings and admire the beautiful pictures and wonder what it felt like to get married like a princess, among beautiful flowers in an exotic location.
Another thing that I did was to make a general list of my intentions and look at it and feel happy, every night before I went to sleep and every morning after I woke up. I used to affirm every day that “My life is filled with magic and miracles!”
My mom suggested that I delete my profile and create a new one with new pictures. I agreed, it was time for a fresh start.
In a week, I was called in for a Food Trade Show to represent a brand called Taste of India. I had an amazing time, watching all the passionate people interact with each other and realized that there was big money invested and made in the food business.
On the last day of the Trade Show, I received a text message from one of the guys on the website. I didn’t think much of it and told him I was busy and that I would text him in the evening, which I completely forgot as I was tired that evening from standing up all day.
I remembered the next day and messaged him. I did not even know who he was, so I asked for his profile ID and he gave me his Facebook profile link. When I saw his profile, I laughed. He was the co- owner of a restaurant named Taste of India! Was this some kind of joke? I checked his pictures on his profile and their website, it was indeed true!
We chatted on Whatsapp, and he asked me if he could call me. I told him to call me after dinner. He was on the East Coast so he was three hours ahead of me and it was really late for him. We ended up talking for three hours! This repeated for couple of weeks. He said he knew that he liked me the first time he talked to me. I met him in his city on my birthday for the first time. He was the perfect gentleman and treated me with kindness and respect. I was on cloud nine, kindness was the first quality on my list.
Everything after that happened super fast. Our parents agreed, they talked to each other and we got engaged a month later. He got along with my family and impressed them. We set the wedding date a month after my engagement as I had to complete my last semester.
We had a beautiful, outdoor wedding in his business partner’s huge backyard flanked by a lake. We also hired a talented photographer who took amazing pictures and guess what?
Our pictures were posted on Maharani Weddings and several other wedding websites!
Also, my husband had all the qualities I had wanted in my guy and much more!
We are happily married for a year and half now and I am grateful every day for the loving relationship that we share. I believe there is someone out there for everyone and you must just believe that even if someone has rejected you, the universe will re-direct you to someone much better!
