My Dream Trip To Hawaii Came True!!
It was this past April when I decided to quit my corporate job and pursue my dream of becoming a reporter and voice-actor. Without a dime in my pocket, I thought it would be a great idea to visit Hawaii. I really needed time to unwind, relax and just have fun. An idea like that would sound idiotic to most, considering my financial situation, nevertheless, I believed it was possible!
Everyday, my mom used to send me pictures of Hawaii to keep me encouraged. She would send pictures of crystal clear waters, breathtaking landscapes and unbelievable picturesque waterfalls! Because the pictures were so amazing, I became so full of excitement that I would pretend I was there.
I was so determined to go, I would search for mission trips going to Hawaii or study abroad opportunities to no avail. I could not locate an opportunity that my $0 budget could afford. Though my chances of going seemed bleak, I kept the faith. I kept declaring that I was going. Not only was I going, I was going this year!!!
Fast forward to May, a friend and I had the bright idea to make a vision board. Like little kids, we brought out the crayons, scissors, colored pencils, markers and magazines for our little project. We cut out our favorite pictures, cars, homes, words and vacation spots. When he glanced over at my vision board he saw the words Hawaii. To my amazement, he had always wanted to go back. He went as a kid but could not remember much about it.
Within a month, a college called my friend offering him a new job that was going to pay him an additional $6,500 to teach a course. An amount that he did not expect. Of course he accepted it then called me to tell me that we were going and he was paying for everything!!! Unbeknownst to me, he had been saving for vacation and the extra $6500 was right on time to add to his vacation fund. This past July, we ended up going on a cruise called Pride of America. We island hopped for an entire week and visited Seattle (which is beautiful by the way) due to a flight layover. The trip was simply AMAZING and I didn’t have to spend a dime.
When I think about our trip, it’s still surreal!
How does no job plus no money equal Hawaii?
FAITH…that’s how! I believed everyday that it was possible and it came to pass.
Here’s some encouragement, even if your dreams seem impossible, JUST KEEP BELIEVING! It will happen for you! It happened for me and I’m no different from you. We’re all God’s children and he desires the best for us.
