My Dream Job!
Submitted by: Pria
Delhi, IndiaFulfilling my dreams, one at a time.
I always wanted to study abroad for my MBA after working for a few years post engineering. I did get offers from the best schools in the world such as the University of Oxford and CEIBS but one obstacle or another kept coming up and I was not able to leave India.
I got an admit to the best MBA school in India. However I was a little sceptical about the placement because I was trying to change my function, role and industry and it was really difficult to do that. Few people could only switch just 1 and and even less could change 2 out of these 3 things.
I was looking for international graduate programs in Fortune 500 companies but my heart was really in luxury retail and that too was based abroad. My short-term aim was to be a brand manager in this industry and since no company comes to my college for that role I thought I would switch my job after securing a normal job from here.
Placements season started and one luxury retail company came which was exactly I was looking for. So, I submitted my application and I was rejected. I was heartbroken but did not lose hope. I applied for a walk-in and they said that I was a perfect fit, they wondered why I did not get shortlisted. I was exhilarated to know that and I gave 2 rounds of interviews which obviously went well because I thought there could not be a better candidate than me for this job.
It turned out that the issue was that there was only one position available for the international role and I was waitlisted because they were looking for a guy. They confirmed a guy and I thought “Wow, that was really close” and I cried for the whole day but did not feel sceptical. I even asked the guy if he wanted that job and he said “I would be a fool to reject this offer”. When I told my Mum, she bluntly said that I would get it, no matter what. I was listening to her but could not believe how it could be possible. So, I left all my hope and tried to cheer myself up with The Secret stories here and thinking about the role and that beautiful country.
The time for the offer signing came. I asked the guy who was chosen if he had signed the offer, and he said “No, I got a better one”. Oh my God! That was the best moment of my life. You see, if he rejected it I would automatically get the offer since I was waitlisted.
And it happened! I signed the offer and I was so grateful to the Universe for giving me exactly what I wanted. Although this whole process was very tiring and at times depressing, I never once felt negative and let it all go while the Universe worked for me. A miracle happened for me !
This is my second story here and will keep writing once I fulfil each of my wishes. Thank you Rhonda! Thank you so so much! You gave me the gift of life!
